Below are four questions and a bonus question.
You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time.
Answer all of them immediately. OK?
Let's find out just how clever you really are.
Ready? GO!!! (Scroll down)
First Question:
You are participating in a race.
You overtake the second person.
What position are you in?
Scroll down
Answer: If you answered that you are first,
you are absolutely wrong!
If you overtake the second person and you take his place,
you are second!
Try not to make a mistake in the next question.
To answer the second question, don't take as much time as you
took for the first question.
Second Question:
If you overtake the last person, then you are...?
Scroll down
Answer: If you answered that you are second to last,
you are wrong again.
Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST person?
You're not very good at this! Are you?
Third Question:
Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only.
Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.
Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30.
Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.
What is the total?
Scroll down for answer.
Did you get 5000?
The correct answer is actually 4100.
Don't believe it? Check with your calculator!
Maybe you will get the last question right?
Fourth Question:
Mary's father has five daughters:
1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3.Nini, 4. Nono.
What is the name of the fifth daughter?
Scroll down
Answer: Nunu? NO! Of course not.
Her name is Mary. Read the question again.
Okay, now the bonus round:
There is a mute person who wants to buy a toothbrush.
By imitating the action of brushing one's teeth, he successfully
expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.
There is a blind man who wishes to buy a pair of sunglasses,
how should he express himself?
Scroll down
Answer: He just has to open his mouth and ask, so simple. |

I'm seriously reluctant to pass on junk that shows up in my mailbox but this one struck me as a bit clever. I jumped in wrong on the first 4 (& yes, also scratched my head for a while over number 3!).
Anyway, is what it is. I'm going to use it in my teachers classes this week. |

I got 3 out of 5 right.
I got the 1st, 3rd, & bonus questions right and gave (the intended) wrong answers for the 2nd and 4th. BTW, what is the correct answer to the 2nd question? It just tells you what you thought was wrong. So the answer is "There is no answer"? pffft! |

Second Question:
If you overtake the last person, then you are...?
Obviously not a member of the race? Delusional?
Maybe this should be on the toeic test. |

Second Question:
If you overtake the last person, then you are...?
Then you are very probably Fernando Alonzo driving Renault and overtaking Felipe Massa by a lap! And this happens in a very early state of the race as well... if Senhor Massa doesn't blow his engine/gearbox first!
EDIT: And for those who just don't have a clue what I'm talking about.... Formula 1

Ever heard of getting lapped? It means you are in last, and at least one lap behind whoever passed you. So, yeah, it is possible to overtake the person in last on a round track in a long enough race. |

That's what I thought too. So I'm giving myself credit for 3. Also I figured the blind man could've already been wearing sunglasses a la Stevie Wonder. |
