Okay this movie just sucked beyond all sucking. First, it's got a cat scare. You know cat jumps out of no where and hisses. Because cats do that all the time... Oh scary! Original! The only thing entertaining about the movie was the woman sitting next to me was freaking out although about half way into the movie even she was pretty tired of it. |

I thought it was decent. It's a pretty interesting look into faith vs. fear, but not a great horror film. The ads play it up like it's chock-full of scares, but aside from a few freaky scenes it's not all that spooky. |

If you get a chance, try to see Requiem, a German film by Hans-Christian Schmid. Like the The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Requiem is based on the life of Anneliese Michel, a a Catholic woman in West Germany who died while undergoing the Catholic rite of exorcism in 1976.
While "Exorcism of Emily Rose" focused on the murder-trial battle between the priest and a prosecutor, Schmid's film details the behavior, events and socio-religious pressures that lead to the decision to perform the exorcism.
Its a wonderfully detailed work, much better than the U.S. version. It is not a horror film per se, unless you consider religious zealotry, an abussive mother and clergy, and the fear of medicine scary. |
