I am in an untenable position @ my hagwan that I have "slaved" at for a week and wonder what would be my options if I try to get another job & I cannot get a release letter. I could go to The Philippines but would prefer to get a better position in Korea. I've been in Korea 4 times before & this situation @ ECS in Daegu is worse than I could ever imagine. They have many 1 day/1 week people here & I can't imagine how they have been in business 10 years.

This would probably be better off in the job discussion forum and not in the travel forum.

as far as i know, you need a "letter of release" from your employer before you can seek employment elsewhere. getting this letter may involve getting fired or reimbursing your current school for things like: flights, recruiter's fees, apartment fees, visa fees, et al. your other option would be to go and work in another country and return to korea once your E2 visa expires.

why is that particular hogwan so bad?

have you recieved your ARC card yet? Done your visa run?

If you havent done any of these then you are free to run away and find someplace else to work. Well....more or less Laughing

As Grotto stated, if you haven't formalised your E2 Visa and ARC yet, just get up and go. Have a few days off and start looking again. Smile

i'm kinda in same situation right now. Best advice I had was, file with the labour board (i mean give your notice there, based on what your contract says) and as someone else said you may have to reimburse for some costs, but overall you'll be better off. My boss didn't want to give me a letter of release either, even giving a TON of notice. We finally worked it out, its a big hassle, and I still have to leave the country to get a new visa. As others have said, you may also go teach somewhere else until your visa is over. If you can stick it out for the 6 weeks or whatever of notice you can do everything by the book in quitting. Otherwise, run run far away and then start new again. Good luck
