The following is what I was offered for Leehwa Little Campus. Has anyone worked for this school? Have any thoughts on contract? Thanks BB
PAY 2.0 million WON/month, plus overtime hours (15000/hr) after 120 hours (the teachers now choose to teach about 20 hours overtime)
BENEFITS -Free round-trip airline ticket
-Free room and board
-Bonus upon completion equal to one months pay
-Paid promptly and in full every month
-All Korean holidays (ten days) plus two paid weeks vacation: one in the winter and one in the summer
-Medical Insurance: 50% Coverage (cheap medicine and doctor visits comparative to US)
-Dental: Emergency Coverage Only
MONTHLY
BILLS Gas 12-15,000WON
Electricity 12-15,000WON
Telephone 8,000WON (local calls only)
High-Speed Internet 28,000 - 36,000WON
APARTMENT Modern furnished bachelor apartment (large fridge, toaster, T.V., western style bed, washer) with balcony and roof/patio access for BBQ events.
Bonuses: the apt. is located next to the school so there is no transportation time or costs and you can go home on breaks. The apt. is kiddy-corner to a new Gym/Sauna, a five minute walk from a hospital, and a ten minute walk from a major grocery store. It��s in the heart of downtown close to the English movie theatre, bus terminal, and train station but, also, only a 30 minute bus ride to the beach and Hyundai foreigners complex (bar and swimming pool) for some fresh air and sun.
STUDENTS 5-12 years
SCHEDULE Morning - 7 kindergarten classes (25 min. periods with 5 minute breaks in between). The 1st period starts at 9:40am and the 7th period ends at 1:50pm
Lunch 12pm to 12:50pm � free lunch (mostly rice, soup and vegetables, tofu, sometimes pork or beef).
In the morning you teach every period except Tues/Thurs you get two periods off and one morning class a week.
Afternoon - 10 classes (20 minute periods) You teach 6-8 classes.
LIVING Ulsan is a modern city that offers all the same amenities available to you at home. There is a large foreign population here, which can be accessed through local bars or www.ulsanweb.com, where you can sign up for local events and find out about different activities such as scuba diving, archery, hiking, Tae Kwon Do, bowling and soccer. There is a foreigner soccer team in Ulsan that travels within the province to play other teams. Transportation within and out of the city is very cheap compared to home. Taxis are mainly used within and buses for traveling to Seoul or Busan (An overnight bus to Seoul costs 30,000WON). |

15000 is way too low. 120 hours is bad enough, and extra 20 (especially at 15 bucks an hour) is crazy.

Rule #1. NEVER agree to 120 hours a month! Agree to 25 (or less) fifty minute classes a week(as long as they are scheduled in block form IE: 2-8 or 3-9. Overtime should be a minimum of 20,000 won per fifty minutes!

Board? What kind of fare? Korean standard  It gets pretty boring and can be quite shocking for a Westerner 
Room? What size? A room or an apartment? Furnished? If you are going to live there for an entire year you really want to know/see what it looks like.

by two weeks do they mean 14 days? Or is it the 10 days they assume it is?

15 classes a day  absolutely no freakin way! Can you say burnt out in a very short time? Afternoon? When???? YOu are starting at 9:40 and working til??? I gaurantee you that this will be a hell of a lot more than 120 hours a month! Are you expected to eat lunch with your students? I say run....run far and run fast!

That is a workload that will exhaust pretty much anyone. The money being offered is a joke.....dont worry about lasting a year because it is pretty likely that no one else has lasted that long. 4 hours of kindy followed by 8 twenty minute classes  thats just crazy! |

| Ulsan does NOT have the same amenities as back home. I've been in Ulsan for eight months, and I'm really starting to regret my decision to live here. Seoul and Busan have way more to offer. |

Unless you're one of those hyperactive cheerleaders with enough extra spare energy to power the Empire State Building for a month, I'm gonna tell you to avoid this one like a fart cloud from a fat lady in front of you on the sidewalk. Let me see if I can break down your schedule:
It says start working at 9:40, and you'll probably need an hour prep time, so let's say 8:40 you come in. Your gonne do SEVEN kindergarten classes for twenty-five minutes each. First of all, being able to handle kindergarten kids that understand 0% of what you say and care even less is a major chore. Twenty-five minutes? That's barely enough time to get them focused. You will be a baby-sitter. Do you like taking care of screaming 4-year-olds who want to run around, throw their books at you, and crap their pants? If so, keep reading.
So that's 3.5 hours. Add 3:30 to 9:40 and you get 1:10. That's when your SEVEN "morning" classes will be over. Notice two things here. 1- The contract says your last class ends at 1:50, and 2- lunch is between 12:00 and 12:50. This effectively means that you'll be getting a 30 minute break to rush to the cafeteria and scarf some food, if possible.
Afternoon is 6-8 20-minute classes. No mention of between-class breaks. So, assuming they start right after your last "morning" class, that means you'll be working until either 3:50 or 4:30, and possibly later depending on if there are break times between them. Break times would push your schedule until 5:00, and you won't be getting out of there until 5:30, if you're lucky. Then, there's the additional overtime courses. So, you're looking at a 9-10 hour day.
Now, you could look at this one of two ways. Let's say you give no thought at all about your job. You just show up right before class, entertain the kids, do absolutely zero prep and zero teaching, which is basically what they want you to do. You love kids, and just whistle the day by, counting your blessings. This could work out great for you.
Or, if you are like me, you're going to try to be organized, keep records of each class, strive to help the students learn English, and be the best teacher you can be. In that case, you will want to kill yourself after one week at this job.
Personally, I wouldn't have even read past the line that says seven kindergarten classes.
