Um, yeah, I teach kindergarten. Like someone said, it's a lot like herding cats.

Fortunately, I like cats.

Other. I do translation and proofreading during the day and essentially run a study room at night.

It would be interesting to take this poll at an ex-pat pub - I'm sure the numbers would be quite a bit different.

that's a fact. You'd see more of the company numbers go up, and the other, since the poll options don't include civilian workers for the American DOD.

i.e. those guys who sit around Nashville all day on the weekend.

Putting the GIs aside I haven't met that many company workers at such places, but then I don't hang out in Seoul much. What I would expect is more hogwan teachers - at least 70% of the teachers I meet at such places seem to come from there. I guess they don't have 20+ hours a week to kill at their desks so there are less of them on the GDF.

What goes on in a study room? How much to set one up?

I have an office job in the ESL publishing field after 3 years of teaching in private schools in Korea - children through adults.

Teaching really isn't my strong suit. I'm using this to get into corporate publishing back home, designing/creating textbooks in the near future.

A study room is where you basically make yourself available to students at a certain time and place to address their questions about a certain topic. You can set the topic or schedule i.e. like calculus for grade 10 etc. They buy in for a month or 3, come for self-study and ask you questions when the need arises. You also set a study schedule and can have them prepare answers to questions you intend to ask, and surprises are always fun too.

How to set one up? rent an extra apartment, around 10-20 grand for key money, furnish all 3-4 rooms with desks, chairs and a white board, place a sign outside and tape flyers to a million doors. . . voila. total is around 25 mil. Prepare to eat dust for a few months, and call everybody you know to tell them what you're up to.
