My new personal favorite is the Stalkcruiter....
I am not even looking for a job, but one has: called, emailed, added me on MSN msgr, called and emailed again.... How he got all my personal info is beyond me... |

Recruiters seem to be easily equated with the army...
....posting around school/uni areas...wanting you to sign up for great adventures, challenges, money...all kinds of perks....but once you are IN, their job is done and you are on your own.... |
so what's the difference between this and actually getting a job on your own? Either way, you're on your own... right now, I'm hoping to use Footprints/Park English or Canada Connections because I have only heard good things about them. I mean, yeah, recruiters have no reason to really carea bout us afterwards but there must be SOME good ones out there. Also, they are merely helping newbs like me find jobs in a place that is fairly overwhelming, I don't really see why that is a bad thing? Please, enlighten my virgin mind... |

Here's the scoop! There is one that I would suggest and he's Duff Recruiting. I've never heard complaints. Remember that they're the go between guy and could give a **** less if you get bum raped in the taco by mr lee down in daegu once they have received their finders fee. That's just the way it is. Contact the schools yourself, and be your own recruiter. Stay away from Fred at Longbridge Pacific. If you make a deal with him, you've just danced with Satan himself! |
Okay, but isn't contracting schools on your own with absolutely no prior experience in dealing with SK/ESL just as bad as having a bad recruiter? I guess I'm just looking for guidance in picking a job. I'll definitely check out Duff Recruiting though, thanks bb! |

Maybe there is more way to find a job rather than relying on just a couple of recruiters. Try other job resources might as well land you a job as more exposure, better chance is still the best selling point on any job search. |

I used a recruiter when I first came to Korea. After that, I found Dave's. I should have used Dave's to begin with, but by then I felt obligated to the guy (yes, I was the quintessential naive noob). He was a fvcking idiot- I should've known better. The guy was American, and one of the first things he tells me is that he can speak 3 languages (and you're telling me this why? Am I supposed to be impressed?). Says he's fluent in Thai and Korean. He carries on a conversation with his wife in the background- apparently she's trying to take some money out of his wallet, and he's teasing her. She's trying to wheedle the money from him by acting all sexy and innocent. I wanted to gag:
Her: Waaah.... Me wan money...
Him: (teasing) Oh ho. That's $100. What are you going to do with $100?
Her: (coyly) Someting...
Him: I bet you want another designer bag, don't you, baby?
Her: (baby voice) Noooooooo....Noooo bag.....
Me: Ahem. What were you saying about the teaching hours again?
Him: (distracted) Just a minute.... Noo. You can't have it...
Her: Whhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy~~~~~~
Me: (WTF?!! Should I hang up? God, I can't believe how unprofessional this guy is. This is getting creepier and weirder by the minute). Sorry. Do you want to call me back at a better time?
Him: No, it's ok. My wife's always like this. (aside) You can't have it because I said so. Why do you want it?
Her: But I need it~~~ Wah~~~~ You give me.
(ad nauseum) |

Hmmm.... Interesting... really...?
I've found a job through Longbridge Pacific, and Fred was actually extremely helpful. He was always available for any questions I had about the school and the city where it's located, always replied quickly to my emails/requests, we've reviewed and corrected the contract with the school according to my requests, etc... I would give him 2 thumbs up for his work. Maybe we're not talking about the same guy, but anyway, he did a great job at helping me find a job. Well, I guess it all depends on what kind of job you end up getting; but I'm very satisfied with their services because I ended up with a great job last time. I'm now dealing with them once again and hopefully will get another good position!

I arrived in Korea about a month ago .. turned up at my new job, looking forward to meeting the American chap (Jeffrey) my recruiter had put me in touch with, whom I'd had my phone interview with. He had told me what a great school it was, that he'd had no problems at all, the staff were great, that he'd been with the school 11 months etc etc .. only to discover the school had never heard of a 'Jeffrey'!! *laughs*
Who was this person .. THATS what Id love to know! |

I'm surprised the "moderators" (presumably graphite rods in Chernobyl) will even tolerate such a disgraceful blasphemy of the LIVING GODS.
Exactly akin to small time dope hustlers in North America, They are our friends. |

Holy @#*&, Gordana!!!!! I'm looking in to using a recruiter for a Korean job in the fall and have been mentally cataloguing all of the problems to look out for, but this is a new one! Had you been in touch with the school at all prior to heading over, or just who the recruiter informed you was associated with the school?
If the school is a bad one, I must admit this was rather devilishly ingenius on the recruiter's part (and, my God, completely UNETHICAL!- though I'm starting to get the impression, par for the course), but if your school is half-way descent, it just plum doesn't make any sense?
WOW! Korea is going to be a real mind trip! |
