Well reading about great hikes in Korea on the "Off topic forum" has me all fired up to visit Jirisan national park this weekend. But, I have no idea how to get there.
Anyone able to give me a bus number, or train stop to go to? I'm in Incheon but can travel to Seoul easily so going from either place is fine.
What is there in the way of paths/walks there? Is it a case of a nice track to follow or "off roading" so to speak. I've never really done national parks before so I dont know what to expect.
Thanks. |

I've been up the mountain from the Jinju side and from the Namwon side, though they're not the only places to start. I'd suggest staying away from the peak - it's too crowded. |

Do people still die yearly on/around Jirisan due to flash floods?
I guess it's too early in the season to be worrying about that now... |

You need to get to Jinju and then get a local bus to Jirisan. There are many different hiking trails throughout the park. Having a car is a much easier way to get around and find the best spots. |

If you're coming from Jinju, be warned that once the bus drops you off you have a good 30-40mins hike up a steep road just to get to the beginning of the paths up the mountain. So glad a friend gave me a lift when I went! |

Jirisan is great...but there are closer places too. If you only have the weekend why not try Songnisan or Woraksan - very beautiful also.
For Songnisan - catch a bus to Daejon and from Dajeon bus terminal you can catch a second bus to the national park
For Woraksan - catch a bus to Chungju and then:

From Chungcheongbuk-do Chungju Bus Terminal, take Songgye bound bus No. 222 or 246 (1 hour interval / 50 min ride) and get off at the entrance of Mt. Woraksan National Park.
Bus heading Weolak-ri (No. 223) from Chungju (one hour and 10 minute interval/ one hour ride) |

I went to Namwon from Express Bus Terminal in Kangnam. like.. 20 bucks? From Namwon, you can catch a tour bus to the park but I just rode my bike around the mountains all day and it was great. Really pretty. Go check it out. |
