Did any of you take out any form of insurance before starting work in Korea? My Dad (bless him) is coming up with all kinds of nightmare scenario's, for example me becomming "crippled" and needing to be "air-ambulanced" back home...
Seriously though, is it worth me taking out some kind of policy before I leave? My prior experience with insurance companies tells me that it may be a waste of money, but then I suppose we never know what life may have in store for us. Any information on this is greatly appreciated. |

The (vast?) majority here have only the Korean national health insurance that comes as part of the job: employer and employee pay 50%. I think almost everyone finds that to be adequate. It includes basic dental care as well as health insurance. |

Any form of travel insurance will have a waiver if you work in the country you are visiting. Just take out an accident and indemnity policy with a company at home. An annual premium, 24/7 worldwide coverage and make sure it has repatriation clause to bring you back home if you are incapacitated in any way. |

The first time I came to Korea, I was like your dad, so I took out insurance with STA Travel. That was about two years ago and cost me just over 300 GBP for the year
If you intend to participate in any extreme sports while you are here, I suggest you do take out some sort of insurance.
