Allow me to jump the couch for a moment.
Haven't you heard? Jesus wasn't really crucified. He moved to Japan at age 21 to study Eastern philosophy, became fluent in Japanese, married a Japanese wife, had three kids, and lived to the ripe old age of 106. WWHTTKD? What would Herai Taro Ten Ku do?
Just when you thought Japanese appropriation of foreign culture couldn't get any weirder/more shameless.

Interesting how he came to Japan 25 years before his birth! But then, if anyone can perform a miracle..
Israel to Japan-- hmm.. I wonder what airline he flew with.
I'm not writing to make fun of our Lord, but to make fun of this ridiculous story. Are there people who really believe that Christ simply globetrotted between Israel and Japan in the first century?

Interesting how he lived there to avoid the Shogun. He must have used his clairevoyant powers to discern that the Shogunate would come into existence within 10 centuries.
In 25BC Japan (if we can really speak of "Japan" at this stage) was ruled by the emperor directly. The shogunate government appeared due to political changes that ocurred at the end of the Heian period, around the 10/11th centuries.
I would like to know how much of this historical inaccuracy is part of the legend and how much is due to bad research on the part of the article's author. It sounds like a story formed in response to the introduction of Christianity in the 16th century, by someone with poor knowledge of Japanese history. |

It's actually an idea the Japanese came up with. I guess it's sort of like how Disney takes a classic story (Little Mermaid, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hamlet) and changes it to a happy ending. If you look around the Internet you can find more sources for this loony little story.
By the way, I'm a stone-cold atheist but this story irritates even me. |
