|
|
i have found many good foods at hannam market. i also go to costco, and have seen a lot of the same foods there, but of course for a fraction of the price. i assume the lady at hannam just buys food at places like costco and resells them at a higher price. does anyone know where she gets her stuff?
i would rather go there and pay the cheaper rate.
for example, at costco, you can get a 12 pack of campbells chicken noodle soup for 10,000. she sells each can for like 2,500 won. but costco only has a few soups, at hannam there are maybe 10 flavors, and things like doritos, cherry coke, and root beer.
where else can i find these items? i live outside of seoul, so i dont mind buying in bulk, as it is more convenient for me.
to be more specific, i really want to find:cherry coke, rootbeer, canned chili, campbells soup, hamburger helper, and rice a roni.
thanks! |

Probably from off the base. Songtan has some black market shops as well, if you're anywhere near that area. Since every shop tends to have different crap, I get certain things when I go to certain areas. |

It's not just getting on the base: you need a military / official ration card too to buy stuff.
Wish there were a French base here ..... |

doesn't anyone else know about the French quarter in Seoul? There is a small french community with real French bakeries/cafes etc.
I've only been to Hannam mart in Vancouver...that was for samjang, kimchi, kimbap, and jeju oranges.
Is Hannam mart pretty big? What can you get there? |

The owner of Haddock house which is the other Foreign market in Hanam dong drives a Hummer. That is a lot of Cambells soup.
If you want French goods find one of the 20 Carefours in Korea but be quick as they are moving out
The French area is Banbae dong
Hannam market is not an international chain that is for sure. |

Isn't Hannam Market the place with the "real" deli and variety of cheeses etc. ? Or, am I mistaken?
I think Hannam is just a typical name for supermarkets in Korean or something. |

the hannam market i am thinking of is a small place below the volvo building near hannam. they have lots of things, western things, like tortillas, cheeses, meats, boxed stuff like hamburger helper, canned stuff like sloppy joe mix. it is worth going to if you havent been there. i think it is the subway stop one east of itaewon. look for the volvo building (might be hard to see at first, so go towards the harley davidson shop) and go into the basement of the volvo building... |

Oh, it sounds like it's just gray market goods from on base. I can get all that stuff in Songtan too. Jeez, half that stuff I can find at Kim's club, carrefour, or homeplus.
Isn't there a "real" western grocery store that is meant to cater to foreign diplomats/businessmen and such? For some reason I thought tht was Hannam but it doesn't sound like it. |

no. they skim suppliers that supply the army bases, and use employees of the base to but things for them. |

As far as I could see, that's not the case in the main market. They've sourced from Cosco and a bunch of different small wholesalers in Kyong-gee do. That little shop at the left when you go in does, however, have stuff off the base. |
