Hello,
I'm leaving my current hagwon because of practices of the Director but I would like to comeback to Korea during Summer Camp season to possibly work and travel. Will I have problems re-entering Korea because I've quit my job with notice but not have received the LOR? I pretty much want to know if I"ll be stopped at immigration and will I have problems leaving the country?
Thank you,
Cheers |

| My Contract ends in November 2006. I want to leave the position early. I'm going to give me employer 30 days notice and hopefully get the letter of release. If he doesn't give it to me will I be able to return to Korea after leaving the country to travel to Japan? |

| You will be able to return to Korea on a tourist visa. You will not be able to work legally without the LOR until you are past the expiration date in November. |

You will have NO problems leaving the country early.
Be sure to hand in your ARC card to the immigration officer when he stamps your passport on your way out. Never give your ARC to your employer.
If you want to return and work legally before your original contract expires, you will need that release letter. However, your employer will eventually have to cancel your visa in order to hire a new teacher on a new visa.
If he just cancels your visa, you are free to get a new job before your original contract expires.
If he reports you as a runner, you will not be able to work until your original visa expires, even though he has hired a new teacher. |

| You do not need the release letter if you leave Korea and go get a new visa. I left my old job early with a School called Brighton because they were demons. Immigration told me as long as I left Korea and got a new visa, I would be alright. They were right. I simply went to the COnsulate in Manila and was issued a new E-2 Visa for my new school. |

That is only because your old director cancelled your former visa. How do I know? Because you can't have 2 E-2 visas at the same time. If he had not cancelled it, you would have still be on Immigration's computers as having one.
Please don't give misleading information. Thank you.
To the OP, yes you need a letter of release...UNLESS the director cancels your visa early. |
