There we go again! Rolling Eyes The government trying to blame the people for the damage it has done in its foreign policy. Non-Americans don't dislike the American people. They dislike Bush.

if you could see what I see on any given Friday night in a dozen dozen gin joints around Korea, you might rethink that statement.

you must be talking about soldiers. thats a complete different ballpark, friend.
and if you're talking about civilians...well, how do you know they're americans and not canadians or other nationalities?

I agree that the G.I.'s don't represent America very well. I'm sure our Canadian soldiers behave the same way in bars.

Seems like sound advice. Many Americans traveling abroad do come off as arrogant, loud and full of themselves. On the other hand, when one visits the US and encounters the locals in their native habitat, they tend to be open and friendly and helpful. A conundrum indeed.

The same can be said about people from EVERY other country as well. It's not limited to just the U.S.
Long on rhetoric and short on specifics.

In my time here the Canadians I've met have been far more likely to fit the term 'ugly american' than any of the americans I've met.

Yeah, I had an Australian friend tell me a couple weeks ago, "What's up with the Canadians in this country?" He says Canadians do live up to the stereotype in every other country he's been, but here, well...

Ok, lets do a run down of what each country lets (or maybe sends) out that they shouldn't. Wink

DISCLAIMER: if you have no sense of humour, please don't go on...

Canadians = morons who define their country and themselves as Not American. Smug in their superiority of Canada (though usually humble on other things not doing with politics or Canada) and quite willing to tell you about it whether you wanna hear it or not.

Americans = arrogant jerks who couldn't be bothered to learn how to say hello and go into McDonalds and order everything in fast English and get angry when they can't seem to understand. Also have political God complexes.

Australians = neanderthals who start a fight cause they haven't since last week. Incapable of discussion outside women and alcohol. Oh, and Patchy, what's up with giving him a passport???

Brits = snobs who have amazing directional abilities as their noses are too far in the air.

Scots = are you speaking English?

South Africans = yes, yes, I know, whites are the master race.

Kiwis = yes, I know you aren't from Australia. You'd be surprised how many people don't actually care about the Maori. That's good, I definitely needed to know how to say that in Maori
