|
|
I recently upgraded my MB, CPU, memory etc.
Its an ASUS MB with a P4 2.8.
I can't get the system to recognize my hard-drive (an 80gb seagate) or (a brand new nothing installed 160gb seagate).
The system BIOS recognizes the drives no problem, its all there and accurate. The problem arises when the system performs an "ATAPI IDE BIOS CHECK" upon boot. This ATAPI check fails to recognize the hard-drive. The only drive it recognizes when it does this test is my CD/R drive.
I've never had a system that ran this "IDE Check" before.
Any ideas on how to correct this problem? I've tried swapping hdd cables, swapping drives, adjusting some settings in the BIOS but to no avail. I thought it might be a bad HDD controller but the system BIOS has no problems seeing the drives.
Here what the screen basically looks like for this issue:
ATAPI IDE BIOS...
Checking IDE Drives...
Drive 0: None found (PIO)
Drive 1: None Found
Drive 2: None Found
Drive 3: None Found
Drive 4: CD/RW (UDMA 5)
Much thanks if anyone can help. Otherwise I gotta wait a week for when I have the time to bring it to the shop. |

Are your hard drives SATA?
If they are, you may need to load special drivers for your computer to be able to access them. This is a common problem, and is often remedied by loading additional drivers during Windows installation. The drivers will almost always need to be on those archaic and outdated (but still useful) floppy disks, and can be installed during the installation procedure. Skip this step, and most computer just can't recognize the SATA hard drive.
Hope this may help.

Did you check to make sure that the drives are set to master and slave and not 2 masters or 2 slaves? Also check to make sure that the drives can be set to slave. My new drive would NOT accept a slave position. It had to be the "master" on the cable. Check the jumper settings on the back if the drives. |
