|

Islamic states are pushing, through the UN and the EU for curbs on freedom of expression, so that Islam is not criticised. Certain EU member states have already rolled over to appease their Islamic masters. However, what got me about this campaign was the utter hypocrisy demonstrated by comments like these;
"Given the importance of religion to peoples and to dignity and the way of life in different cultures, respect for different religious beliefs is essential to international peace and security and to the progress of human civilizations," it said.
So, we can now practice Christianity freely in Saudi Arabia then? More galling than the hypocrisy of Muslim nations talking about respect for different religious beliefs is the pathetic European reaction to it.
In another development, it was reported last week that E.U. bureaucrats are drawing up a "lexicon" of terminology to use when referring to Islam. Words like "Islamist" and "jihad" are under review, as is the phrase "Islamic terrorism."
Let's not offend Muslims by calling a spade a spade. Another step towards dhimmitude.
Beate Winkler, head of the European Monitoring Center on Racism and Xenophobia, said E.U. governments should provide time for religious programs on public broadcasters and support mosque construction.
What he means when he says 'religious programs' is of course propaganda that whitewashes Islam, and present it as a religion of love, peace and equality that is no threat to Western values. And of course, we need more mosques. You can never have too many mosques.

I suspect these recommendations are aimed at European governments that already have state supported religion of one type or another, and appeal to a "sauce for the goose" sort of an logic.
In Ontario, the Muslims were pushing for Sharia-based divorce arbitration law. The argument was that a few years earlier, Catholics and Jews had been granted this privilege, so how could it be denied Muslims? The government made short work of that argument by revoking religious-based arbitration for Catholics and Jews.

Actually, I can't see much harm coming from that. Radical clerics advocating criminal activity are unlikely to make their pitch on state television.
I have to go teach. More later. |

That's true. What you are likely to get however, is an unhealthy dose of misrepresentation, along the lines of 'Jihad is a spiritual struggle', and 'Mohammed was a civil rights activist' and other such nonsense. My tax pays for the BBC, and I do not want it spewing out any more PC propaganda for Islam than it already does. People need to be informed about the reality of Islam, and if this is offensive to Muslims, then so be it. |

What is truly staggering is how quickly the western world is bending over backwards to coddle Muslims. Political Correctness is almost as big an evil as Islam is. Like the man says, you do not have the right to not be offended.

The most politically correct people in the world are Christian fundamentalists. You can't say much of anything without them jumping down your throat. [/quote] |

You obviously have no idea of what political correctness means. Either that, or you are attempting to willfully distort what it means. |

Oh, I despise fundis almost as much. But, with my home sweet home being the exception, Europe has been pretty succesful in getting Christianity out of it's political environment. It seems however, that they were just clearing the way to let Muslims fill the void they left. If it's between Muslims and Anglicans...which would you rather have calling the shots?
