No leprachaun or 'Riverdance' questions please.

Being Northern Irish I can also double as an oracle of all things British. Unless a real Brit starts their own.....

It didn't take long for a 'Troubles' question!!

I'm happy to say the worst is definitely over. Those responsible for the bombs and battles called a ceasefire in 1994.

Real peace on the streets is still an issue. Riots in the Summer and stuff like that.

Worryingly, the Catholic and Protestant moderates have lost political power recently to more extreme parties who don't really want to work together to continue the peace process.

The 'War' is over but there's still a lot of nastiness.

Generally very well. They're considered to have the same 'mentality' as the Irish. Down-to-earth, fond of a drink, and pretty good 'craic'.

Why doesn't Ireland Irish it up a little? Only 350,000 use Irish every day and their Wikipedia's barely over 3,000 articles. Estonian has 1.1 million speakers and their Wikipedia's already past 17,000. Can we please Irish it up a tad, and what will it take for that to happen?

England is infamous for lousy, rainy, gray, gloomy weather. In the movies, Ireland is always green. Is the weather in Ireland really any better than English weather?

God knows!!! But whatever it is the Koreans stole it because it has the same effect as Soju!! Rough stuff. Better avoided.

Do yourself a favour and go for a pot-still Irish Whisky like RedBreast or Green Spot. Really good whisky.

Crap. I knew someone would ask a hard question!!

Long story short.......

The poorest Irish in the 19th century lived in the west. Poor, rocky land. Blight hit the potato crop. Most British and Irish landowners didn't do anything. Indeed, those who couldn't pay rent to to the potato failure were evicted. A combination of homelessness and no food caused roughly a million deaths over 5 years and 2 million emigrated.

Good points.

Most Irish learn Gaelic to some level at school. It's certainly not a dying language. In fact, I would hazard a guess and say that more people are learning Irish than native speakers of Irish are dying off. The 'Gaeltacht' communities in the west of Ireland are alive and well.

Also, we're very proud of our contribution to the canon of English literature.

If anything, Ireland is more rainy than England. But not as rainy as Glasgow which has a year round monsoon season.
