I recently backed up a few DVD but am wanting a good prog. to convert the VOB files to a 700mb (or so) Divx file. Any ideas? I have tried AutoGK for conversion but it didn't work. Any ideas?

When I read this I was going to say, use AutoGordian Knot, it works very well for me.

Why did yours not work? Have you got the latest version?

Ya I dl'ed te latest version. No idea why exactely...it just came up with a bunch of error codes and the encode didn't take. Maybe I'll try and check out the AutoGK forums or something.

Did you install with all the default options? And also, get the full package.

Ya I dl'ed the full package. What are the settings you use when you encode? Also how do you encode multiple VOB files? (The whole film). I open the first VOB file in the series and assume that it takes the rest collectively? Am I right? Thanks for the help. I uninstalled AUTOGK and reinstalled it and now am trying to encode into xvid to see if there are any problems. I will keep posted.

Yes you are right, if you open the first VOB file it will automatically use the others, but what I do is I rip the DVD using DVDDecrypter, you can use other rippers as well, but I like this one, then when you open the VOB files just select the IFO file and it will automatically use the VOB files.

Also, when ripping with DVDDecrypter, select "Main Movie Files" before you rip. That way it leaves out all the other junk.

So 21 hours later (yes the slowest computer in the bleedin' world) I finally have a finished product. Encoded xvid video BUT the audio is completely out of sync! What did I do wrong? I ripped the DVD using DVDShrink and the VOB files play fine in VLC player but the encode is WAY off on the audio. Any ideas? Thx.

If it took 21 hours, then it could be the hardware is just not up to snuff so to speak.

Also, I have had this problem before with certain movies, I would suggest trying another DVD, and see if it does the same.
