Hello all,

My GF and I are going to be heading to Korea at the end of may or so and I had a question.

You see, I have a problem, I am addicted to video games and just bought an XBOX360 about one month ago. I don't want it to gather dust while I'm away so I was hoping to bring it with me. I was hoping that there was no crazy difference in Korean power outlets or A/V hookups to televisions. Are they just like in North America, or am I going to have to shell out for some kind of adapter or something?

Also... how easy and cheap is it to get an internet hookup in your apartment, and are all the networking cables the same so I can bring my laptop and wireless router from home as well?

Thanks

You can buy a power adapter for about $10 here, and broadband internet access is cheap and easy to get installed just about anywhere. Your network cables and wireless router should work fine.

Make sure you bring a powerstrip with multiple outlets, though. Most power converters only have two outlets, which can limit the number of appliances you can use at one time.

you could even buy the converter before you leave. i assume they have them at radioshack. korea uses the same type of outlets as china. i think they are 260 v? someone should confirm that, i am not quite sure.

and for internet, this country is wired, you will have no problems getting hooked up.

Converters can weigh between 5-10Kg, which takes a bite out of your maximum carrying capacity on most airlines....buy it here.

Yes, buy it in Korea.

http://www.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=104409336&pos_shop_cd=SH&pos_class_cd=111111111&pos_class_kind=T&keyword_order=110V

Its a 2KW version (2000 Watts) for 44,000 won @ 6+ kg.
A 1KW is 22,000 won. And yes, bring a power-strip!

Those will work for any 110V appliance. From your XBox to an oven (if the power is at or below the limit).

You XBox *may* work with those small electronic converters you can buy in RadioShack on the airport, etc, but it also may not. Usually those small ones are good for cell phone chargers, electric shavers, etc.

you may even be able to get the power unit in your xbox 360 changed to an asian style one.

i bought an xbox in yongsan when i first got here. i took it back to canada with me when i went home, and the guy that i originally bought it from in yongsan changed the power supply to a NA style. only cost 20,000.

that was an xbox though...not a 360, so im not 100% sure...

steve.
