In a surprise decision a new foreign teacher is to join my school next week (well join the middle school, but I teach a lot of them too).

Pretty good for me, because I know her fairly well and get along, plus my workload will lighten.

But as for the school..... There is 4 classes that they can obviously give her and that's it. The teachers are all now bitchin and freakin because they are expected to do extra co-teaching classes as well as normal hours that the students actually need.

It's a strange time to join a school - schedule wise.

Strange vibe - not wanted or needed. I hope everyone is nice Rolling Eyes

I wouldn't be offended, maybe they just wanted their own foreigner instead of sharing you.

As long as this change doesn't affect your salary I wouldn't worry.

I really like a lot of my MS kids and have quite a bit of celebrity status with them, but if someone were to come along and take them, leaving me to concentrate exclusively on HS, I don't think I'd complain.

I'M not complaining.

I'm saying that the school really is anti having another teacher. The edu. office is just sending her with 4 days notice. So the school is in a kufuffle. I'm cool with it, i think it's great.

I don't understand.. who is not needed nor wanted? You or the new teacher?

That's Korea for you, though, that they have the money to spend and spend it they will. My husband says that if they don't spend their money, they won't be able to get the same budget next year, or ask for an increase!

I'm sorry. I thought you were lamenting the loss of your Middleschoolers.

Re-reading this I'm thinking she means the new teacher is not needed or wanted, not that she feels that way. Hopefully the new teacher will fit in. I wouldn't mind if that happened to me.

Perhaps, reading it another way, it could mean that another teaching is coming, but that no one knows what to do about it. What should be done about it?

I smell disaster. What I understand is that the new teacher is not needed (only 4 classes to give to her) and the Korean teachers are being given extra work because she is coming. I think there will be make-work assignments and some possibly resentful co-workers.

I hope things turn out better for the new teacher than it sounds like at present.

We often walk into strange situations in this career. This is just another one. You might warn the newbie - and provide support. But, really, not too much you can do about it.

Wow, I can't understand how you can misinterpret the first post.

She/he is talking about a sudden decision to add a new teacher to the school, and the other teachers are freaking out because it's going to be more work for them. The OP is worried that the new teacher will be resented because of all the new work the new teacher represents to other teachers at the school, and the OP hopes that people will be nice to the new teacher.

People, stop posting drunk Wink

Wow, was that what it was all about? Was that it?

Thought there was some subliminal message encapsulated in there somehow. I'm glad it's all cleared up now. Cool
