G-boy...I understand your response but come on now...a sell out?

To whom and in opposition to what?

Shoukd we back up other foreign teachers no matter what on the simple basis that they are fellow westerners???

The guy is a sell out because he is wants to screw over a fellow westerner stuck in a foreign land merely for showing a bit of an attitude in the workplace. The OP's eagerness to have this guy deported is surprising to say the least. If this chap had been behaving inappropriately with children then the OP would have my full support. It appears however that this guy's actions fall well short of meeting the criteria for deportation.

"Fellow wsterner"? Who cares if he is a "fellow westerner" it doesnt make him a sell out for hating the guy for being a crummy and a pisspoor teacher. Theres no such thing as seling out. if some joker was fucking up my place of work and directly threatening my income because of his pisspoor performance that is probably driving away students, I wouldnt side with him. Fellow westerner, or not. Im so glad I dont have "fellow westerners" at my school so I dont have to play this ridiculous game.

A fellow westerner stuck in a hagwon which the OP has already confessed has its problems. It is no secret that hagwons often turn dedicated teachers into clowns with little enthusiasm. The OP is entitled to have a rant about a lazy co-worker but by actively seeking ways to get this chap deported he has shown himself to be a miserable little sycophant.

The guy is only going to be there for another couple of weeks, and the OP hasn't mentioned anything about a mass exodous of students. He should put up with the guy until he leaves, and hope that he finds a job where he will be happier.

I don't either because I know there are some real sycophants out there who will undermine my working conditions because they are prepared to let a wonjang ride them like a subic bay bar girl.

Every place has problems. The OP didnt, or maybe I missed it, mention how severe the problems are. Getting him deported is stupid. I wouldnt ever support that, I think those types of people that report others or try and get them in trouble are evil. However I dont get the use of "sell out" just because the guy is a "fellow westerner". Would you call him a sell out if he tried to get a Korean teacher fired because that K teacher sucked?

Neither did he say much about the problems at the place. We are left to fill in the blanks ourselves.

Or be so freaking destructive in how they behave as to make the workplace a real goddamn hellhole. Had a coworker just like this. Maybe you didnt.

ok G-boy...

So now:

The guy is a sell out because he is wants to screw over a fellow westerner stuck in a foreign land merely for showing a bit of an attitude in the workplace.

The OP was asking if he should report the teacher for doing a crappy job. I don't think he should do that (said so earlier) but how does this make him a sell-out?

What fraternity does he belong to that he would become a sell-out?

If he had reported the teacher (bad idea in my opinion) would he have become a "traitor to the race" g-boy? Laughing

Perhaps you could have used a better term to make your point... Wink

.

Actually he would only be a "miserable little sycophant" IF the boss wanted to fire the guy as well. But I saw no indication that the boss wanted to do so.

If someone is messing up the workplace I would want him gone, regardless of whether he is Westerner or Korean. While I wouldn't go so far as to get him deported (can a foreigner even do that?) I certainly would have a meeting with the boss about this fellow. If the boss still refused to listen to reason after hearing all the problems I'd just say "Him or me. Your choice." What kind of boss keeps a teacher that swears at the students and threatens his liveihood?

Once again he could only be called a "sell-out" or a "sycophant" were he ALWAYS taking the boss's side against the Westerner (and while the latter term would be accurate in that case, the former would not be, unless you are someone who believes that people of one race should always stick together.)
