Happened on Thursday night near Namdaemun Market
I went back with a Korean girl after a night of drinking.
While looking for a place to stay I got the usual dirty looks
from Korean guys thinking that I had "stolen" one of their
women but as it is standard procedure over here, I didnt
think much of it.
Anyway we get a room and at about 3 am a guy is trying
to open my door and knocking etc... the girl I was with
asked him what he was doing and he asked her if she was
with an American... she replied that she was by herself...
he then apologised and we didnt hear from him again...
I was thinking had he know I was in there... it may have
got very ugly...

gotta be careful

You're right. Some of the cheap ones (25-30,000) are so dodgy it hurts!

Try to find one of the up-market ones and keep going back to it (if you like it, of course)

You'll pay 50-70,000 per night but I think it's worth it.

I've been in regular 5 star hotel rooms which look like a yogwan compared to the luxery Love Motels.

We're talking 4 person jacuzzi baths, king-size four-poster beds, large-screen TV with video/dvd and internet, power-shower, and all the little touches that make you think that 70,000 was worth it!!

It makes a great treat for you and your lady once or twice a month!

The ones I've been to were all bunched together in Bundang, south-east Seoul. Very close to the Baekgung subway station. Look for the neon signs.

There was about 6 up-market motels when I was last there 1 year ago. They were building several others at that time. My Korean girlfriend insisted that the newest were always the best.

Two good ones that I personally tried were;
Hotel Novios
CF International

The best of the bunch is CF International. It is awesome!! Exactly as I described above. 70,000 for the best rooms, 50,000 for the still very good rooms. Plush carpet and arty sculptures in the hallways. Plus no sleeze!! No porno movies or other give-aways to the true nature of the place.

Apart from the one in Bundang I heard CF International have a branch in Kangnam. Never been to that one though. I suspect these luxery love motels are to be found mostly in affluent suburbs. Ask a local Korean guy about where they are in your area.

Well worth it Mack! You'll feel like a millionaire for a night!

funny. same exact thing happened to me here in new york. i hooked up with a caucasian girl at a bar (i'm asian). while we were leaving together, a bunch of white frat boy types called me the worst racial slurs and attempted to physically separate us...threatening to kick the sh*t out of me....

actually, this kind of stuff has happened about a dozen times in my lifetime.

i figure this happens to all foreigners regardless of which country....one of the many things you have to deal with as a "minority". This might be a new concept to many of you white folk, but learn to live with it as long as you're not in your native country...people WILL not like you because of the color of your skin.

Dude, bad vibe, but stand up for yourself. Don't know what I would have done, but lately I been stupid and confronting groups and nothing happens and they all back down.

The knock came about an hour after we entered the hotel... there was
a lot of comotion outside the room.... guys talking and making a lot of
noise... because of the time being 3:30 and the fact that it was a "love"
hotel I was a bit concerned because you would think that anyone going
to such an establishment would be with a girl... then when the guy tried
to open the door I really was terrified.
As to who it could have been and what their intentions were I dont really
know... we had been walking around Namdaemun market for a while and
as I said there were a lot of guys giving me dirty looks... before that we
had been drinking in Itaewon.
The guy working at the hotel seemed to be a bit pissed about the situation
even when recieving the money... maybe ?? he told someone I really dont
know... what I do know is that I wont be going to such a place again.

when i was in china a few years back i heard about a common scam wherein a foreigner would take a chinese "lady" back to his home/hotel and then the police would come barging in later and the foreigner would have to pay a fine. apparently it is/was illegal for foreigners to have even consensual sex with chinese nationals. by the way, the "lady" was usually in on the scam and got a cut of the money, so i was told.

Hey all.

Mr. Kalgukshi, I understand. Actually I think that's totally decent that we users exercise our conscious as we type (and before we post it:)). I'm glad you brought the thread back and we appreciate your forum duties, which in all honesty are quite necessary on just about every internet site.

Mack the Knife, that's an interesting quote in your signature there. I think I need to put that on a post-it near my computer.

Rush.... hmmm, well after giving it more thought and reading more of what you said it seems a little bit clearer. For one it obviously sounds to have been more than one guy if a number of them were talking, but never can tell huh, maybe it was only one guy but he argued with the owner, etc.. Secondly, I think that whoever it was the fact they made plenty of noise out in the hallways before the knocking (or maybe you said attempted break-in?) at least tells us they were not highly calculated, i.e. perhaps they were more just punk(s) looking to ruffle some feathers and move on, whereas if the guy just "came from out of nowhere" that might(?) imply his covert behavior might have meant some extremely serious business (i.e. full fledge brutal attack), but again I'm just sort of trying to paint a picture. By the way, if the door was flimsy enough to be pushed in that makes it even more edgy.

But yah, since you didn't suspect you'd been followed from other times in the evening, and you'd been in the room a full hour when someone finally arrived, coupled with the front desk owner's nasty expressions, it sounds like perhaps he did have a chat or phone call with someone, thus showing up later.... (get the feeling I'd have a slight interest in being a crime detective? have been told that at least once before in life.)

Obviously, the guy must have been a thug with lower intelligence -- the fact the girl easily convinced him she was alone in a "love" hotel shows his inability to process information. On the other hand, it sounds like she had half a brain at least.

Anyways, glad you shared that for all. Later.

I was talking with my Korean girl friend yesterday, she says love hotels are risky. Apparently some of them have hidden cameras in the rooms and sell the videotapes as porn..
Regarding the door-knocking incident: clearly the guy was drunk and out to beat the **** out the gal for being with a meguk. Luckilly you had a smart gal who wanted to avoid the confrontation. I used to have a girlfriend who set me up for fights the whole time, -I don't think Koreans are like this fortunately. However I'd be happy to kick their ass if I had to (or at least attempt it.)

Interesting story that. I had a similar experience in a video bang. It happened a couple of times. Once me and my Korean gf had been watching the video for 5 minutes some assistant came in and told us to move rooms claiming the video was faulty (I could see no problem). I am sure that he wanted to catch me at it or just disturb me. In a diffrent place the same thing happened a couple of months later. That time they waited for 30 minutes before doing the same thing. (Same excuse used). I was told by my Korean friend that had that happened to a Korean man a fight would perhaps have ensued! That behaviour being considered very rude over here.

As for the "I was attacked by some white frat guys in New York," line. I am not impressed by the authors approach to racism here. It is no excuse that becuase it happens often that it is okay. It is just like rape. It is common but it doesn't make it right. Why doesn't Korea try to better itself socially as well as economically?

A key hit the lock and the guy opened the door????

how did the guy have the key? and wasnt the door chain on?

once IN pusan me and my mate were living in a motel for about a month and this guy came in at night tried to rob us!! we woke and he bolted!!!
and so did we the next day!

good place for thieves to hang out ! and namdaemun man.. BAD BAD area! all the losers and scammers gather there!
Seoul has a lot of crime! dont believe this country is some paradise!
I have had run ins before in Motels here too with girls.. had a huge fight once walking to my room with a girl.. these YANGACHIS! about 19-20 came busting out the door and started doing the ole MOBAR! huh, WAE JERE BA blar blar.. im like what ever dickhead.. so my girl starts talking to them but they are drunk on Soju and think they are cool.. one guy tries to settle him down but that doesnt work.. I was living in that motel too, so I just walked down the stairs when the owner came up.. on the way out I heard the Mirror break. he must of punched it HERO.. either that or he looked in it Cool Laughing

but yeah stay away from the Dodgy yeogwans man.. even if the girl is a skank you have to stay there too. find a nice one big bright place.. and one that is kinda isolated.. go for the 35.000-45.000 range..
like the other guys said.. find a couple you know and like and stick to those.. I have about 3-4 that I know for when I aam bad..
KANGNAM, SINSA, SHINCHON you will be sweet..
can even go to the rooms alone and they will provide company. but that costs about 130.000 Laughing
