A friend and I want to go hiking up one of the many mountains in the Seoul area. We don't really have a clue, so we're just going to choose one and go.
I went mountain climbing in Chuncheon back in January... it was really rewarding when we finally reached the top and was a great was to spend the afternoon.

Anyone have any suggestions for some good trails in Seoul or perhaps one with a great view??

Suraksan at the top of line 7 is really nice, you can get to the top in a few hours, and there is a big stone there with the altitude carved on it (I think it was 794 metres?). Easy to get to and a good climb

Have you got a Lonely Planet? They've got enough of the basic info. to have you hiking for a few days at least.

A nice and kind of out-of-the-way one is near Dongnimun station () on line 3. I can't remember the exit number, but look towards downtown Seoul (it's clearly visible), take the first right. You won't be able to go any further because it's road only and heading towards a tunnel. Take a left into some apartment blocks and there's a huge set of steps that leads to a great walking trail on a mountain. Nice views of Seoul and Buk Han San, very beautiful area. Also, if you play your cards right, you can end up in Hongdae on the other side, but I got lost and ended up near home. Namsan is very good too.

I've been through Bukhansan and that's nice to go to. The easiest way to get there without getting lost would be to go to Dobungsan on I think either the brown or blue line in the northeast. Just get out of the station and head to the mountain you see.
I've been to Namhansanseong and that's nice. It is an easier hike than Bukhansan but once you leave the subway you have to walk about 20 minutes to the park.
I tried to go to Gwanaksan, but got lost on the way and on the trail. Embarassed At least I think it was a trail.
