I am looking for a public school job starting around September. (I'm not in Korea currently.)

The SMOE website has you send your application to a recruiter (depending on your location). This isn't the same as going through a recruiter, right? Why do they use recruiters? I'd rather work directly with SMOE or the school...

It also says that you will be assigned a location and refusal of a particular location will result in disqualification. Does this really happen? I'd like to be a bit more particular about the school and location.

I also found a list of individual schools. Would I have better luck emailing or sending my resume to individual schools rather than going through the official SMOE application process?

There are smaller education offices for local s? I couldn't find a listing of them from the main website. Can anyone help me find a listing of them? (Or even what they'd be called so I can do a better search for them?)

Thanks for any answers...

Chante

There's this thread on SMOE:

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=54783&start=0

I was offered a job with them and almost took it, but didn't for a few reasons. Pay was 1.9 won a month and 2.0 after three months. From reading these boards I've gathered that that's low, even for a new teacher. Also, you'll probably be the only foreign teacher. I'm up for meeting Koreans and all that for the cultural experience, but I wanted there to be some other foreign teachers in case I needed support and there were things I didn't understand, etc. I thought it would be good to have other people around who have been through the same thing.

Thanks for the links to the previous discussion. Smile I had read that, but wanted more details.

One more question...

I know Korean schools want to see a picture. Can the picture be PART of your resume (or is that a no-no like it is here)?

Thanks again.
