Ok, back to the original topic.

I just sat on the roof of Nashville's yesterday afternoon (for about 5 hours) drinking beer and eating snackfood with about 10 friends. Best five hours of my week.

Itaewon's not all bad.

I have to weigh in on this one. What attracts me there? The missus likes the shopping and I like to buy a crapload of books from Chiaa when I am there. We both like the Turkish restaurant Salam up near the Mosque. I also use time there to stock up on Indian and SE Asian ingredients from one of the many supermarkets there. I aslo enjoy the range of beers at 3alleys and the fact that the owners remember me everytime I come back, even if it has been 3 months between visits. I also like meeting friends there of an evening, watching football at Hollywoods or having a laugh at Pollys. Then there is the people watching.

And let me ask you this, do you really think if Dave was asked for the IP of a user that was in Korea breaking Korean law, he would not give it up in two seconds?

I would not make that kind of statement if I was not 100% sure I could back it up. Come at me all you want, but leave the business alone or at least back up what you say.

Ooh, you have my phone number, I'm really scared. What, are you going to pay Eamo to come break my kneecaps? Laughing

But let's pretend for a moment that you are seriously concerned about your store's image. For all your big talk about having lawyers at your beck and call (HA), you are sounding pretty foolish. Who has broken Korean law here? No Koreans and nobody in the business of law enforcement gives a shit about me calling you classless, or even about the other poster calling your store crappy. I personally have not said anything about your store because I've never even been there. For all I know it is a great place. YOU are the problem.

And if you were really so concerned that negative talk about your store was hurting your business, why would you be boasting about how you love it when these little spats happen because it only increases traffic? I doubt your "lawyers" are going to be able to do much with that. Laughing

That's the rooftop of the Nashville I mentioned above (Nice pic Guru!)

They serve mostly finger food (burgers, fries, chili, etc.) and they have Redrock on tap, 9,000w for a small pitcher. On a nice sunny day, it's a great place to hang out with friends.

That's what the f*@c*! attracts me to Itaewon! Wink

Stating that I have your phone number was in no way a threat. It was proving a point that I am able to find you so something could be done. Guess you missed that...

I have absolutely no problems having you calling me whatever you like. It means nothing to me as you mean nothing to me. But you attack the What the Book? brand that is a whole different story. And once again your brillant intellect shines through not knowing the difference between criminal and civil law. Cops do not get involved in civil cases (unless stemming from a criminal case) so you are for once right about something as they will not give a shit about it.

You can learn all about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_law

Do a search on Efl-law and see how the slander and liable laws are in this country. I would never in a million years sue someone for personal attacks on a message board--I have enough self-esteem to shrug it off, but as a leader of a company and a soon to be corporation I have to care about attacks against the brand or I would be failing in my duties as a leader.

Oh, that's rich. That's a good one. Corporal accusing someone else of not being polite or classy!!!!!

What's even richer is eamo commenting on anything that has to do with polite and classy.

Both online and off, eamo is the very definition of polite and classy.

And Corporal is well-known around here for being neither.

As for you ...

I can't say I like alot of stuff Chiaa writes either here or at expats but he has books, never had much problem getting them from his store. I have been in a couple times but have to be honest when I say his manner was a bit um....well..not sure how to explain. Sort of .....oh gawd an annoying customer....but wasn't outright rude.

He is better than fighting the crowds a Kyobo or other chains and all in all I get what I want there but definately not service with a smile.

Man..you thread hijackers. Fine. I will jump in on this with my own opinion or two:

We have been there numerous times. Never once did I feel that Chiaa gave off a negative vibe. As a matter of fact, it was more of a, "I am not going to bother you and follow you around like a Korean salesman does when you go to a Korean shop, rather, if you need my help or assistance, I will gladly help you".

For one, I prefer this treatment. I have been in customer service for over 10 years and have learned to read customers within the first 10 seconds of meeting them. Some want help, others don't.

Most of the time, when I have been in his shop, I notice that people generally browse for titles. Guys, there isn't much to be helped in this case. As long as you recieve respectible service when it's needed, then what's the problem? Do you really want him to follow you around as if you were about to steal something?

Posting on these boards, you guys should very well know that everyone has different personalities, thus acting differently in different situations. No one person is above the other. Let's keep this in mind and remember the service that is provided from What the book?. Many of us enjoy reading and enjoy being able to get a book that is normally found for twice the price somewhere else. I, personally, enjoy supporting a foreigner that has the courage to open a business in a foreigner country. Heck, I may be doing the same next year.

I said my peace. Thanks.

This is 100% true. Reading people in retail is just so uncanny.

jaderedux, what kind of service do you get when you go to Kyobo? Bandi and Lunis? Yeongpung? Any service at all? Never mind service in English! What about service with a smile at the two other used bookstores?

Are there times I should smile a bit bigger? There is no doubt. But, I have not had a day off in six months so there is always a native English speaker available for waegooks. I think that should make up for my gruffness just a bit.
