Dear Professional Colleagues and Friends of KOTESOL,
I would like to open an invitation to all of you to the first annual Korea TESOL National Conference to be held at Hoseo University on May 13, 2006. We are very excited to host this founding event and hope to set the standard for future Korea TESOL National Conferences.
This years theme is Helping Students Open Doors to Learning; Sharing What Works in Korean ELT Classrooms. In line with this theme, I invite you to open doors for yourself that inform and enrich your various teaching contexts by attending some of our more than 32 expected presentations and workshops along with round table discussions on the hottest topics in ESL today.
Many of these, in addition to our plenary and featured speakers, who include Dr Paul Nation, Dr. Sei-Kyoung Cho, Caroline Linse, Dr Thomas Santos, Yoo Gye-Hyoung, and David Paul, are sure to revitalize your teaching and research. Whether you are teaching in public, private, or post-secondary, the range of hands on workshops, down to earth classroom approaches or simply the opportunity for rubbing shoulders and networking, will certainly suit your needs. Make a plan to invest in yourself by attending the daylong conference at Koreas premier ELT national conference.
I look forward to seeing you at this innovative conference, and dont forget to register early to receive your conference discount! Online registration is open from April 10-April30 at http://www.kotesol.org/nationalconference/2006/

Best presenter was Paul Nation. Again. The man rocked the mic.
Worst was the Korean guy before him, from K University. The topic was podcasting in EFL. I did not need to hear "Row row row your boat" or some shit, all the way through.
You know, I don't think that I've ever been to a good KOTESOL presentation put on by a Korean. Now I avoid them when I'm picking seminars to go to. |

Fully! Paul Nation was great, both the plenary talk and the later afternoon session. Really useful, informed and mostly jargon-free. It was a real bummer how the podcaster guy was allowed to drone on and on and subsequently cut into Dr Nation's time. Shame on the organisers! Paul Nation is an acknowledged expert in his field - the podcast guy is not.
Also, the opening prayers were a bit of a drone. I believe in God and everything, but Jesus is not my boyfriend and I don't appreciate being subjected to a hand clenching exhortation for Him to come to the conference and help us be nice to each other. A simple "God bless our efforts" would suffice.
David Schaffer gave a good presentation, too. He was my third choice - one and two both cancelled - but, I'm glad I went. Teachers are an easy audience to work, but I think he did a good job and he made some excellent points. I'm the telepathy guy, if you were there. |

Your comments are duly noted. I will pass that on to my colleagues.
I will also pass on your good remarks about Dave to him!
Glad you all enjoyed it. |

Most of Paul Nation's material was the same stuff he talked about at the 2004 International Conference... I suppose it was useful to hear it again though.
I usually avoid the professors/teachers based in Korea in favour of 'bigger' names coming from overseas, but Andrew Finch is always good and his EFL Bingo ideas were really interesting. |

Hee hee no. We had a prayer because the university we were at is a Christian school. |
