| My school fridge has beers in it- last week the teachers told me I should have one before I taught my extra class with the wee little ones. How about you - do you have booze in your work fridge? Can you drink it? |

I work in a public boys high school. Our fridge is STOCKED at all times. Beer, soju and whiskey. Every Wednesday is 'sports day' for the men teachers. Following it, the women teachers serve up fried chicken to go with the alcohol.
From time to time, I find empty soju bottles in the office when I come in to work in the morning.
One of my favorite times was the 'picnic' last fall. The maintainance man cooked pork in a bonfire outside, then the secretaries served it up in the office office with soju, kimchi and a few other anju--between classes. A couple of teachers went to class with flaming red faces.
It's nothing for a group to come back from lunch with alcohol on their breath.
I'm less shocked about it now than I was last fall. |

Yes, booze on hand, sometimes in hand (after 6 o'clock) and in da fridge at work. I'd be remiss otherwise.

Gosh, I love Korea and this goes on my list of Top 10 Reasons Why. (Even if it's not my place of bidniz, it's enough just to sit here and know that it still goes on!) Of course this would never make Homer's list, but you know what? I'm okay with that.

Ha!! I'm impressed. But I'm also very old-school in my views on drunken teachers. I know my parents wouldn't've stood for drunken teachers, and they'd be right about that. Still, I enjoy the many ways that Koreans see the world differently than my parents did. Or do.
Ya-ta, did you end up snagging that half-empty bottle of Dimple or what was it? |

Here's a guy I knew who used to have a good job and girl friend, drank too much, lost everything, and died of alcohol poisoning...

I think I have shown remarkable and commendable restraint. Each Wednesday I make myself a whiskey and Coke to go with the fried chicken. For some reason, no one else seems to touch the stuff. Could it be that I have 'inherited' it? I don't know.
All of this will come to an end when I start teaching at school #3 next week on Wednesdays during fried chicken time. Hmmm...a thought just occured to me: Maybe this is how the school is re-claiming the bottle of whiskey in the fridge.

| At my (public) school I found three bottles of soju in the fridge last week. I won't be in that lounge for a few days (very big school) but I plan to see if they're still there when I am. |

| Mmm just so you know- I did Not drink the booze, but I could have and may well do it yet just for the later shocking cliam- it is not wrong to have one beer a day at all - all those Euro people must have a cup of wine or beer with lunch - it is just a culture thing- and never in any of the offices in America that I have worked in was there booze in the school's fridge, I think I might take a movie / picture with it just for the strange counter(American culture) to show later for kicks. |

teaching kids when you are pissed is awful- the buzz wears off before they do- try taking a biz class to a pojon macha on a friday nite wooohoooo!!!! becha a hundi you won't get home before 3 am
Call it bonding/team building/ etc..........yr fine....and you'll find yr Korean gets reaaaly good about 1am! |
