I got an oven but I bought it myself. Mind you, I didn't come here as a teacher... and had to buy everything from scratch and decided that it was a proper oven or nothing...

This is my new toy. Not plugged in yet, but it will be by the end of the week! I bought it of the really nice Edoras guy here, cheers mate.

I can't wait to have a working oven, Korean food does not need an oven but really good food does. Korean food is generally rubbish, apologists note that I'm not dissing all Korean food just most of it. Boiled urine in a pan is not my idea of haute cuisine.

I'm looking at roast duck (peking duck) pancakes and a few other things to serve at my inaugural housewarming to which a few lucky bastards wil be invited.

Mrs. T and her husband will be invited.

Not sure how anyone really needs an oven... You can cook just about anything using a regular burner. In fact, I've only ever cooked using a rice cooker. You can toss just about anything in the rice cooker. Anything you crave that MIGHT need an oven, can usually be bought inexpensively ready-made from a restaurant. And as for those choco-chip cookies, Princess, personally I think it's cheaper and a lot less hassle to buy a box of them from the local store!!!

Go green, ditch the oven!!!
I'm a snob though when it comes to things like cakes, pies and cookies. I prefer them homemade. Bought just doesn't cut it.

I got one recently, looks very much like keithinkorea's. Bought it for a pittance off a couple in my town who were leaving for greener pastures. I don't use it all that much but just having it for when I need it is a godsend.

Finding oven cleaner in Korea seems to be quite a hassle. The people who sold it to me said they had never run across it while they were here, the oven was a bit gross too. Korean friends have also told me they had never seen it either. Luckily I went home last month and brought back a big can of "easy off". Does anyone have any info on buying oven cleaner in Korea?

When me and the missus were buying our apartment, there was an option to install either a gimchi refrigerator or an oven - cue big argument as to which would have been the more useful item, but the oven won in the end and there have been absolutely no complaints over the stuff produced from it so far Smile

I've never seen any. My solution: put casseroles and anything else that might bubble over on a foil-covered cookie sheet. It helps a lot.
