Things are not working out at my present job. Nothing is what I thought it would be. The recruiter misled me as well as the school. I want out now before I go absolutely crazy. Of course my contract says if I quit I have to pay this and that. Is it enforcable?

How did you get another job before finishing your contract? I cant wait 11 months! I dont want to get screwed even more. Please help!

check out your contract.
Most contracts will state that a teacher leaving any contract must pay back certain things such as airfare, recruiting fees etc. You are bound to pay this unless you can prove the school is in serious breach of contract. In most cases though you get screwed. As the process to prove this is long and drawn out, bloody ambiguous and usually in the favour of the Koreans.
If you do leave a contract early, you must get a release letter and the school must cancel your E2 visa. If this does not happen, you will not be able to another E2 visa until your current visa expires. You cannot hold 2 at once.
Unfortunately, (however, I do not know any of the circumstances), you will end up paying everything back and be out of pocket.

You may want to point out to your boss the grievences you have and see if they can be rectified. If they can't, look at your other options after that.

Man, this really sucks. It looks like they have me by the b#lls. I really do want to leave on good terms.

Is it any different if I am asked to leave due to poor performance? I wonder if they will attempt to withold my pay.....

Have you only been there a month?
Try and talk to your boss first before you make any decisions. Maybe he is not aware of your problems.

Well if you have a decent contract, it should state that poor performance will result in termination but only after 3 written warnings and every avenue has been tried out to find a remedy.
Mate, you have been there for only a month. You can't really expect not to get screwed in some way.
Your best bet is to solve the problems or just take it on the chin and leave.
If there is no need for police action to be taken against the school boss, you are right, they have you by the short and curlies.
The worse your relationship gets with the school, the worse it will be for you. Keep that civil and try to be more professional than those around you. Unfortunately if you are leaving after only a month, some may question your professionalism. Again, you have not provided us with the circumstances so it is difficult to form an opinion either way.

Actually, I have been informed that I am the casue of all the problems. Everything is ALL my fault. Its quite uncomfortable.

I am not afraid of confrontation and will not allow myself to be pushed around- BUT I want to come out ahead if I have to leave this position.

Start doing searches for 'letter of release' and 'release letter'. This will have to be your number one priority.

"My school sucks. I was mislead. I want out. They say it's all my fault. I want to come out ahead. How?"

Razz

Ok. Tell them you are sorry and should, for the sake of the school, leave. Ask for a letter of release, and go.

You can only get a new job if they give you a release letter. If they don't you have to wait another 11 months before getting another job. I would advise looking for another job, find a new place you like and tell them the situation with your current job. There has been lots of talk a teacher shortage so maybe a new school will be eagerly willing to pay whatever you may owe the old school. It might work but you still need the letter of release from the old school.

If you are teaching kids, tell them that you just can't teach kids and need to find an adults job. May work or may not but worth a shot.

yeah that would happen in bizarro world.
But then again, this country is bizarro world, so you never know.
There are only two ways you can possibly get a new job without waiting 11 months:
Get a release letter, leave the country, find a job and come back on a new visa or
have your school cancel your visa, leave the country and come back on a new visa.
If you can find a new school that will cover all of your costs, let me know their name..I'll take a job there!
Also get it out of your head that you will get out of this ahead financially. You stand to lose money..suck it up.

Indeed.

Plus you have not said what exactly is the problem...well beyond..boo hoo they cheated.

Give notice, get your release and find other work.

You will have to pay back airfare for sure (that is normal) but the recruiting fee is a bit much, unless you signed a contract that says you have to pay it back...then that means you should have read your contract more carefully before signing it...

Have they violated anything in your contract? If so then go to the labour board and cite breach of contract.

Talk to your boss and tell them you cant work in this hostile environment(do this after payday) call in sick until they fire you.

You're not a slave and you dont have to put up with a crappy situation. You were lied to and misled...get out and find another job!
