| I'm looking to put my savings into a high interest account. Anyone know of a particular type of account paying good interest? Any help much appreciated. |

| Bank of New Zealand is paying 7.25% at the moment. Only problem is unless you plan on living in and spending your money using the NZD, you could lose a bit with economic releases. I'm American and am getting 4.5% in my savings account. I tend to use the USD so I'm not worried about shifts in the economy. www.Emigrantdirect.com is my bank. |

For USD Shinhan give 4.79% on 90-day accounts.
Not too sure that USD is the right one to hold right now, but that's another story. |

Hmm...I actually lost money on that one.
How a bank could say to me we underperformed so much that we won't be paying you any interest and we'll gouge a further 150.000 is beyond me.
Shinhan, now known as CVNT BANK. |

I'm guessing those weren't secure deposits at those rates. My girlfriend steered me away from that sort of thing for those exact reasons. Care to tell us what happened in more detail? Much appreciated! |

In addition to what the last poster said, it looks too as if you opened an account with another bank and it seems unjust to blame Shinhan.
Those "stock-linked" accounts can be great. But not always. I am sorry for you.
(I had a pension plan that over 7 years gave me back barely 90% of my contributions). |

I understood that it was secure....evidently not.I certainly hadn't expected to lose money ...oh btw, they said I would be guaranteed my principal and the interest if I kept it there.....for 5 years.
Guess I didn't lose quite so much....put in 5 million and lost any interest plus 150.000 off my original investment.
Be more careful next time I guess and make sure the bank guy speaks English and he can show me the exact conditions in English. |

| I have every sympathy - did you actually keep it there for the whole 5 years? |

Weeeeeeeelllllll, if the capital guarantee was for 5 years and you withdrew before the guarantee came into effect, that was your decision.
It may have been a good decision, but it's not really fair to blame a bank before they were obliged to make good their contract. |
