Hi people,
I have been offered a position in Incheon starting in September. There doesn't seem to be much information about the city other than it's near Seoul and it was famous during the Korean war. Can anyone tell me anything about the place? Does anyone live there now? |

I've never been myself, but my friends tell me it's wonderful. You should definitely get a job there! |

Don't be a dick Spin. Be accurate and give the guy some context.
OP: Incheon is commonly referred to as the Marseilles of Korea. But it's demography is more ethnically diverse: lots of Chinese live there. |

Having lived there, I have to agree with the American gyopos who say that Incheon is the New Jersey of Korea.
Downsides: it's dull, grey and way over industralised.
Upsides: you'll save more money as there is less nightlife and less stuff to spend money on. Close to the Incheon harbour islands, one of the best kept secrets of Korea.
As long as your apartment is near to a subway or bus station, so you can escape on the weekends, you'll do just fine. |

I've been here in Incheon for about 2 months now. While it's not nearly as nice as Jeju is, I'm warming up to it. It's close enough to Seoul that I can go when I want, but not so close that I'm going in all the time to blow my money. Of course, I live within 200 meters of about 15 Love Motels and 25 안마s.

First of all, Bolton?!!!! Watford are gonna kick your ass when we get promoted this season, bring on the playoffs!
When people say its industrialised, does that also mean its an ugly place?
Is it somewhere that you don't have to travel to another city to buy things? By that I mean, does it have everything you need or could want without having to go to Seoul? |

OK. One thing is you're dreaming if you think Watford can take the Wanderers. Also, they aren't even gonna make it through to the Premiership any time soon, so no biggie!

It's not too ugly. It's not nearly as nice as Jeju, as I said before, and I miss that a bit. But there are parks and nice areas to play in and relax in. Also, someone mentioned the channel/harbor islands, they're fantastic!
I can find almost everything I want here in Incheon. Now, one obvious thing I can't get is computer stuff, but that's easy to get with a 45-minute subway ride straight on Line 1 to Yongsan. Also, I go into Seoul to visit What the Book! and talk with Chiaa every couple of weeks. There's an English bookstore out here, but I haven't found it yet. I'm looking next weekend.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Incheon is fine. Close to Seoul, but not as polluted. I've lived here in Incheon for 2 years and like it just fine. |

You gotta be kidding! Where I was, the pollution was far worse than Seoul as it was close to the industrail area.
Other plus to Incehon, close to the airport so you can get out of korea. |

Incheon is a big place, so your quality of life there could vary pretty dramatically based on where you live. I lived in Imhak-dong, North Incheon. I lived in a brand new apartment in a complex that was attached to a subway station. There was a Walmart and a Carrefour within walking distance, plus a mountain with hiking trails. After the Vietnamese restaurant closed, we had to ride the subway for a whole 15 minutes to get to Bupyeong for foreign food options. There were tons of foreign teachers there, so I met a good bunch of friends there pretty quickly, and I could go to Seoul everyweekend if I wanted to.
It was no more or less polluted than Seoul.
I had a great year living in Incheon, and aside from the pricey cab rides back from Seoul when I stayed out late in Seoul, I never understood why people on this board bitch about Incheon, and I still miss it sometimes.
The only reason I'm not living there now is that better work opportunities brought me to Seoul. |
