Over 80,000 frequent flyer miles, and they never seem to have any seats available for me to fly home with.
What's the use?
Never use them. They've lost a loyal customer of 6 years. |

BBE...I use them all the time when we fly home and back here.
Never had an issue with them. Then again we accumulate points through our credit card and have been able to use these travel points without any restrictions.
NWA pts (travel perks) much like aeroplan or aerocrap if you will, are tough to use, have many restrictions.
Best of luck out here BBE...NWA has great prices on asian routes. |

Homer,
I've got to burn up miles somehow. What routes and times of the year have worked for you as freebees? |

BBE,
As I mentionned, once I figured out how restrictive and retarded the points system was with NWA and AC I got myself a credit card that accumates travel points. This card allows you to exhange your points with any airline and imposes no restrictions. So far we have been able to buy a couple of tickets with the points and had zero problems.
In your case, I would suggest you call NWA and ask when the hell you can use those 80 000 points. The World Perks program is indeed a bit restrictive. You could however use the points to get upgrades (like from economy to business)....hope it works out man! |

15 Years ago I was living in Minneapolis, which is northwest's home. Their nickname was Northworst air. (And it was well deserved) At that time, we had our issues and I swore I'd never fly them again. Forever turned out to be only 10 years, but I still hate them. If anything, I'd say they've gone down hill since then. But, they are the only U.S carrier that flys out of Pusan and the only carrier that can get us to where we're going in the U.S. with only one stop at Narita. When you're flying with 2 young kids, number of stops is a big issue. And they do have some pretty good prices. So we are using them again (reluctently).
Anyway, we did get 2 free pusan to portland tickets last August using our Korean air milage on Northwest. Summer is the peak season and its very hard to get free tickets, but I think its even worse this year since they are in bankruptcy and may have cut back on the number of free seats available. To give yourself the best chance of geting some free tickets, avoid the peak seasons, (not so easy when you're a teacher who's vacation is during school vacations),and plan as far ahead in advance. (start looking about 10 months ahead). It might still be possible to get some tickets for this summer, but I'd guess they'd be few and far between. (Another thing I hate is their search function, you have to search one date at a time. I spent countless hours last year looking for those free tickets) I'd say your best bet would be to start looking for some tickets for late January or February of next year. |

i've redeemed 3 free trips using northwest miles. the 2 domestic usa trips were no problem, with very few blackout dates. my trip to central america from usa required 35,000 miles and more flexibility. trips to asia from n. america require a lot of flexibility and 60,000 miles. |
