| Won't go that low, because public school jobs offer better. Paid yearly bonus of 2 million, paid trip to Japan (these are things many unis don't offer). BA's that have experience (not just hagwon exp) are the people that universities are hoping to target, but they won't draw the smart ones unless they offer at least 2.1 plus more vacation. |
What are you talking about? The conditions at public school have no bearing on the university market. They can offer all the cash in the world to teach PS but candidates will still be looking to the universities because they dont have to teach kids and hang out eight hours a day to complete their minimum teaching load.
And 2 million per month would be considered by many university teachers to be a raise. Quite a few people I know make less than that rate, some who signed on in Seoul at 1.8 and 1.85 million won. And let's not forget Busan where most university salaries, less housing, are at the same level if not lower. |

Would you accept a university teaching position that pays 1,600,000 won per month? Would you like to teach university students and elementary school children for 1,600,000 won per month? Do you expect more from a national university? |

As I've said on some other recent threads, just because the position has a university name in front of it, doesn't mean you are working for a "university', let alone deserve professor status. The "unigwon" trend fools a lot a people into thinking they are working for "so and so university," and then they whine about their hagwon-like contracts. Well guess what, that's all these "So and So University Language Center" jobs are- glamourized hagwons. (Not that that's a bad thing- some benefits are better. It depends on the individual.) |
