Anyone ever travelled TX? What are Corpus Christi, Galvaston and Austin like?
What's Albuquerque, NM like? (sorry if I spelt it wrong)
An american mate of mine said he hates Dallas because of heat, pollution and rednecks. Is this unfair? Surely Dallas is pretty kickass? |
I've worked in Galveston, TX which is a beach town. |
What's it like? is it nice? |
I've only visited Galveston twice, but it seemed a nice enough place. A bit rundown in a lot of what I saw, a lot of industry what with the oil rigs n'stuff, but it also had some really nice spots. Some really great resturants also. And, a lot of girls since they've got Texas A&M Galveston right there. The guy who worked there will have have some much better input though, deez is just my 2 cents.

| What do you think of Bush's performance nowadays? What's he been doing recently about domestic issues like the hurricane Katrina victims? |

| Honestly, all jokes aside, the way that the US government is formed blaming George Bush for the government is like blaming Ronald MacDonald for a bad hamburger- neither of them run the joint. That said, it is important to note that ANY politician in Bushes shoes would have done the exact same thing, Bush just can;t put a good face on it. |

Springsteen Vents His Fury
Boss on post-Katrina N.O.: 'I saw sights I never thought I'd see'
Monday, May 1, 2006; Posted: 1:15 p.m. EDT (17:15 GMT)
Springsteen blasted political leaders and played pointedly topical folk songs in his first Jazz Fest appearance.

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- New Jersey's favorite son was adopted by New Orleans on Sunday, as Bruce Springsteen -- through speeches and song -- vocalized the anger, frustration, pain and resilience of this hurricane-battered city at the annual Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Decrying what he called "criminal ineptitude" in Hurricane Katrina's wake, Springsteen jabbed at the political powers he deemed responsible for New Orleans' slow recovery.
Perhaps the most pointed moment came as he prepared to sing an old song that he had rewritten lyrics to for New Orleans. Noting that he visited the city's Ninth Ward, perhaps the most devastated area in the city, Springsteen said: "I saw sights I never thought I'd see in an American city," and added: "The criminal ineptitude makes you furious."
(Watch Springsteen let loose -- 3:20)
With that, he launched into a song titled "How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live?" and dedicated the song to "President Bystander." Its lyrics included the lines: "There's bodies floatin' on Canal and the levees gone to hell ... them who's got out of town, and them who ain't got left to drown, tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?"
It was Springsteen's first appearance at the event, the biggest musical happening since Katrina struck last summer. The rock legend, along with Bob Dylan and the Dave Matthews Band, were among the high-profile names who joined the city's homegrown music stars for the two weekend-long festival, which kicked off Friday and will end next Sunday. |

I assume you're asking why, but not sure about which part. Why did so many die? Why did they allow the levees to fail, why is it taking so long?
That many people died has absolutely nothing to do with the Bush administration. That would be Mayor Nagen, and above him, LA's governor.
Levees: Also has absolutely nothing to do with BushCo. It's been known that those levees could not withstand more than a catagory 3 storm since the late sixties/early seventies. Well before this administration. You'd be better off blaming Kennedy and Johnson for that one.
Taking so long: Just buracreacy, plain and simple. The bigger government is, the longer it takes to get things done. Standard motto for government/military is "hurry up and wait".
On the last bit, it's not fair, it's not pretty, but dem's da facts.

| I was talking about the clean-up and restoration of New Orleans. A lot of people lost everything they had including family members. I didn't hear much about the Bush administration coming to their aid. So much money and resources are being spent on this war in Iraq. Looks like a massive misuse of manpower & resouces. I don't know if it is -jus' looks that way. |

| Well, it was recently delcared by the US gov't that FEMA was who dropped the ball. As such, there is a massive reworking of that organization going on. Several thousand people were hurt by Katrina, but blaming the government for something that they are working hard to fix is petty. |

Well, that was my question. How are they working hard? What exactly are they doing? I saw what New Orleans looks like recently on 60 minutes. Looks really bad. All we hear about on CNN is Iraq. This seems to be Bush's preoccupation right now. Please tell me I'm wrong. |

| Hurrican Katrina actually occured in August of 2005, almost a year ago. Since then, the government completed a full investigation of what went wrong, has helped to rebuild the city as much as it can, and has begun a complete reworking of FEMA, the agency which is responsible for natural disasters. |

When I became a naturalized citizen of the USA, why didn't I get to sing the star spangled banner at the closing of the ceremony with my hand on my heart? |

I honeslty do not know that answer. Did you ask? Maybe it was not part of the ceremony, but I doubt that anyone would have minded if you just began to sing it. Most places do not mind public singing like that. I would suggest a few guidelines though:
Do not sing "New Orleans is sinking" while in New Orleans
"I'm bad" is not the song to hum while defending Michael Jackson
And above all else, Mostley Crue's "hot for teacher" is not a good high school graduation song. |

I did not ask because I had been there for five hours ( with buddies who had taken time off of work) and we all got hungry. There was a cool speech by a judge lady who grew up in poverty yet realised the American dream, however most of the ceremony was waiting, paperwork and more waiting. I was really looking forward to some flag waving, heart felt celebrations. Oh well, I am American and that's most important to me.
The best day of my life anyway. |
