I've been here for one week now, and have mentioned to my co-teacher a few times that I need to get my alien registration. Every time I bring it up, she looks slightly baffled and says that she doesn't know what this is. I've tried to explain why I need it (form of ID, taking trips out of Korea, getting a cellphone etc) and each time she says she will find out what I need to do. So far no luck as of yet, I'm just wondering if this is a common problem? I thought this was a pretty major thing, and I'm surprised that nobody here at my school seems to know much about it.

I was the first FT at my school and they were completely clueless, too. I had my VP phone immigration so that they could finally explain it too him. I'd suggest doing the same thing.

From memory you need:

Passport,
Passport photos,
Copy of school's business licence,
Contract (maybe).

Get your school to call immigration. You can't go on Saturday's anymore, and give your location you are going to have to take a whole day off school. Go first thing in the morning to avoid the queues!

Thing is though, there were two foreign teachers here before me, although I never got to meet them as they'd left by the time that I arrived. But thanks for that, I'll give it a try

Tell her you want a 외국인등록증. She will know what it is then, and perhaps realise the importance of helping you get one.
