Ok - you may remember 6 weeks ago - I was asking how to get more memory installed in my PC as - my PC was running a bit sluggish and my memory was full (due to dowloaded games/movies etc)...
so after lots of advice - I opted on getting an external (USB) 60mb (no additional-power-needed) drive that just plugs into the USB port
I bought this one here for 110,000won - http://www.leto.co.kr/FrontStore/iGoodsView.phtml?iCategoryId=&iGoodsId=039002000010
anyway - I was very happy with it when I first used it - and during the first week of using it - I had moved all my movies/games etc over to the (NEW E drive - USB 60mg storage thing) and freed up my C drive....
so all my games, movies etc were now stored on this new USB E drive thing...
anyway my PC was much faster, better - the C drive was only 30% full and I was even only using 35gb of the 60gb new thing - which I thought was good.... as I had moved many many movies, games onto it...
anyway on Tuesday night I watched a couple of movies, then deleted them after watching them (as I always do each night) - then turned the PC off and went to sleep...
the next morning I woke up and turned the PC on - and although the computer still shows that I have the E drive - it will not OPEN - it just gives a message "The peripherals .... have changed...." -
I just can't get it to open - I even tried taking the thing to work and plugging it in to the computers there - but it will not open on any computer - just gives me the same message...
I don't understand what may have happened - any suggestions..? |

Wow, that sucks!!!
I can't help you at all unfortunately. You might want to re-install the drivers????
'
I was faced with the same memory problem. I opted to buy 250Gb external hard drive for my laptop. A little big and needs power but I only paid 110,000 won on Auction. I already have a 10gb card for traveling etc.... Works like a charm . Did you partition your drive (I don't think so). I have partitioned mine, on the advice of others.....
Good luck.

Try running "e:\ chkdsk/f" from the command prompt or by right clicking the drive from "my computer" then go 'properties>tools>check disk now', which will do the same thing.
It could be that you have some bad checksums in effect as a result of the plug-n-play not disconnecting the drive properly when you shut down the computer. You can fix any plug-n-play problems by downloading the "autofix" utility here.
Try these two options out and tell us if you are still getting the error. It would also be nice if you posted the exact error message as it is kinda difficult to do anything else for you without better information on the problem at hand. |

The tech guy at work advised I split it into two , an F and G drive. One for permanent stuff, I won't delete and the other for deletable stuff, not to be kept 'til eternity .
So I let him do it and now I think I have two hard drives of around 120 GB for storage.....
Don't know if it is only cosmetic. But I did it ....

When you disconnect the drive from your computer do you go down to the task bar and disconnect it via windows first or just pull the usb plug out?
The exact error message would help too... |

Partitioning an external drive is just silly and only an overly zeolous Korean tech would suggest it. They love to make partitions here... don't know why! |

Yes, this is what I was getting at with the whole plug-n-play spiel I did. If it is not PnP, then the user should go down to the taskbar and click the drive icon (the one with circular arrows), and click 'safely remove device'. This should be done before unplugging the device or turning off the computer. |

Thanks, yeah, he was probably over zealous..........such is how it is, being a techno idiot. I believe anybody.
But believe it or not, I now have the OPs problem. What do you do when you unplug the USB drive without going through the message/icon????
Last night I returned home and shut down my computer. kept getting a message from the external drive (F) that a file was corrupt. I tried to shut it off using the icon in the toolbar but it wouldn't shut down at all. So I finally had to just shut off the computer and unplug it.
Next day (today), the drive is not showing up on My Computer. It is there, the properties show up but I have no access to it!! So any suggestions how to access it and make it show up???
DD
Thx, in advance |
