I love my wife and my family, but there are times when I just want to take people in this country and shoot them! My sister-in-law was 3 months pregnant when suddenly last Sunday night she awoke with blood flowing from "down there". She and her husband rush off to the nearest hospital emergency room at 1 am, only to be told, "Sorry, there is no one here to help with that. Please come back in the morning." Crying, desperate, and panicked, she heads off to a larger, real hospital. Her moronic husband argues with her in the taxi to just come back in the morning, eventually loses his temper and starts swearing at her. She gets to a large hospital where they properly diagnose the miscarriage. For the next three days she stays with her mother, while the husband goes out drinking with friends until 5AM. Now he is mad at her because she doesn't want to go back to work just yet.
Sometimes I just want to shoot some people... emergency room nurses, brothers-in-law... arrrgh! |

| What an awful story. My sympathies to your sister-in-law. I can't imagine a worse thing happening in worse circumstances. But probably a better use of your energy than shooting anyone will be providing some support to her at this time. |

| Life can sometimes be very harsh in Korea. It's disappointing. |

| "Harsh" is the perfect word for this situation. I just can't get over the hospital. "Come back later." |

There is an important piece of information in that story that might save some people some pain/discomfort...worse. Many (maybe most?) Korean hospitals don't have doctors on duty at night. Not even for emergencies.
A few years ago I had a kidney stone attack at 2 in the morning. By 4 it was bad enough that I knew I needed to go to a hospital and that I was in no condition to get myself there. I woke up the downstairs neighbors, a co-worker and SK, his Korean nurse wife.
We arrived at the hospital and SK explained to the nurses what was happening. They said there were no doctors there, but that I should wait until 9 o'clock, but they agreed to give me something for the pain. About 45 minutes after the shot and no change in the pain I asked for a second shot. At that point the nurses admitted that the first shot was a placebo. SK blew up then drove me to her hospital where she was able to get me a real shot for pain. A great doctor showed up in the morning.
It's a good idea to ask around where the good hospitals in your neighborhood are. |

There are many posts that deserve to be stickies.
And then there are those few posts that should be made part of the log-in process. So you'd click on your "Dave's" bookmark, but instead of the usual index page, up would come Ya-ta's post. And to ensure that people read it, there'd be a comprehension quiz at the end of it. You couldn't get to the forums until you scored 100 on that quiz. |

Naughty ajosshi!
There always seems to be some awful tension between married Koreans. The husband is always arguing or shouting, telling her what to do: she is always whining or occasionally doing everything not to get him angry (battered wife??). Just listen to the tone. Far from harmonious, they seem happy only if they have a problem. If there isn't one. then conjure one up and argue about it.
Of course this is all quite different before marriage- the boyfriend following princess around like an obedient lapdog or trying to paw/touch her up constantly.
Talk about 2 extremes; from absurdly perfect courting behavior, to abusive behavior after the economic contract is signed and secured. |

If you are going to pop the brother in law remember the following bit of wisdom.
1) Aim for center of mass.
2) Breath in release breath half way, squeeze the trigger.
3) Live in the front sight.
Also wad cutters are your friend. |

No, he's probably lying.
What the *&%$ is wrong with you?? You and the brother-in-law should get together and exchange tips on being insensitive.
Kyrei, my heart goes out to your sister-in-law. Miscarriages are horrible things to experience, even if everyone around you is being supportive. I'm so sorry to hear about this. |

| OP, I'm sorry to say but your story doesn't shock me in the least.... sounds so typical of average Korean heartless society. I have somewhat similar stories. I also have stories of people getting horrible treatment at hospitals in America too. Geez, I wish this world were perfect where everyone would do the right thing, the good thing, the "do unto others..." thing, but that world just doesn't exist. I don't walk around wishing I could shoot people. I get my frustrations out by confronting the people I feel who are wrong. Maybe you should confront the hospitals and the husband. I'm not sure it will do any good except make you feel a little better. |
