There are optometrists all over the place.... just go into one and see if they speak english. If not walk 500 meters and check out the next one.

I went into regular eye shops since I arrived in Korea to update my prescription. However I recently began having some vision problems and went to see an opthamologist who found the problem and also found that my glasses were the wrong prescription.

don't trust the guys running the eye glass shop go to an opthamologist. The guy I went to speaks English very fluently. Get off at Ewha station take the exit with the elevator (can't remember the number) walk about 15-20 meters and theres a building with several medical clinics and a pharmacy on the first floor. The opthamologist is on the 2nd floor.

asan medical center has an opthamalgist who speaks english, go to the int clince first and they'll get you a referral to a Dr Kuk. Just be prepared to wait a while. They do a very thorough test of your eyes including dialation.

total cost was under $40

Oh my goodness! I need to hurry up and get myself to S. Korea. Forty dollars to see an opthalmologist is amazingly cheap. I work at an optometrist's office in Texas (let the flaming commence) and it is over $100 for the basic exam.

Opticians & optometrists seem to be one & the same in Korea. All glasses shops offer free eye tests, & in my experience they are as capable as eye doctors. They use the same modern equipment.

One time I went to get glasses & had a prescription from my opthalmologist in my pocket but let the optician retest me. I have tricky vision problems, but the two prescriptions were identical.

Language barriers dont really interfere with eye tests either. Its not hard to convey that lens a is better than lens b.
