I need to lose 50lbs. I've heard so much about people losing weight by eating Korean food. To people on this site who have lost weight, how did you do it? More specifically, what did you eat?

Don't eat as much rice and exercise. Dieting isn't going to make you lose 50lbs.

I lost heaps of weight in Korea by joining a gym. The owner took good care of me, helping me use the machines, leading additional classes for flexibility and cardio, etc.
Then I went to Canada for a month and gained most of it back. Crying or Very sad

I've gained weight here, as have most of my friends.

If you want to lose 50 pounds, you probably have a lot to spare. Try living as a vegetarian; those people come here and rapidly deteriorate.

I've lost 14kg conservatively, 20kg if i'm being optimistic (hiding from scales when I first got here).

I say gymming is an excellent step in the right direction, after I got back from a work out I'd think to myself "mmm i could go for a chocolate bar, but that'd undo all my gymming" its a great way to stop the snacking.

Other than that I say stick to salads in summer and soup in winter. If you are intending on eating Korean food then stay away from

Ramyeon (its just plain awful for your health)
Kimbab (its not BAD but eat 2/3 pieces instead of a whole roll)
Samgyupsal is not good either

I dont really think Korean food is healthier than western food really but the style of eating promotes healthiness. They bring out the veggies (side dishes) and you instantly are eating, while the main dish cooks. Then you have meat, but your still scoffing veggies, and finally the rice comes. By that point your full from the last hour of eating and you barely touch the carbs. Thats how I find it usually ends up for me anyway.

Good luck, its a hard road to travel but you'll feel so much better at the end!

Being a vegetarian can also mean living on potato chips and cola for sustenance when there's no veggie food offered in the cafeteria. If you love kimchi and red pepper paste, you'll be okay. If you're not really into it, you're in for some trouble.

Run, run and then when you think you can't do any more, run again.
Doing suicides for a few hours a day will do it.

I agree about alchohol and calories. Also colas..........

It is all quite simple and all the quacks who use smoke and mirrors are wrong...

It is all Calories in = Calories out........find your requirement and you will reach your natural/healthy weight.

All the other mumbojumbo is just noise. It is not the imput that is important, we as a top of the food chain society get enough nutrients. FOr proper health, probably too good calories and our bodies become lazy, they don't take the nutrients there in the calories we give ourselves (and thus the proposition that people who live long are "slightly starved", meaning they create the conditions whereby their bodies are primed to use the energy given , to maximum benefit). We are prospering ourselves to death.

So my advice about the 50 lbs??? Just eat less!!!!!!! Take out a journal and write down everything you eat for a week. A normal week. Everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then decide to eat 50 %of that. Seems too little???? NO way!!! You will only get to 70% but try the 50%. Drink lots of water as an OP stated and stay into the mindset of enjoying the food, not the fact that you can have more....

My two pounds worth.

I didn't lose much weight here, just improved my overal health.

But to lose the weight you need to (in my opinion as a runner for 15 years):

a) Excercise

Yep, no getting around that. If you want real lasting results you need to move your butt and sweat.

b) Cut off the junk and sugar packed foods and replace them with heathier choices.

A friend of mine lost 20 lbs by simply cutting out soft drinks and snacks and starting a regular exercise program of aerobics (he bikes) and weights. He started 3 times a week and now goes to the gym 4 times a week (hour each time) and eats right.

There is no magic recipee in my opinion...

You know, when I first read this, I read it as 'oral health'. The whole post just didn't make sense after that, until I read it a second time.

I now agree with everything written.
