Anyone been on one of their tours around Korea? How was it? Worthwhile and fun or rip-off? |

I was just browsing their site yesterday. I heard about their Ulleungdo tour coming up and was interested in it.
If you look at all their photos on the website, it seems to give a good impression of what they are all about. I think it would be a good chance to meet lots of ex-pats on a very well organized tour. They've planned everything down to a tee, and the inclusive prices seem reasonable, although not bargain basement.
For me, I'm not so sociable so I don't like being surrounded by a mass of ex-pats. I would rather just explore things at my own pace. Although, for some events like their rafting river tours, I imagine going in a group would be much more practical. Same for overnighting. I've sometimes been charged double rates for travelling solo. |

I've been on two of their trips and had a blast both times I went. I've gone ice fishing up in Hwacheon (sp?) and to Seoraksan. The price is very reasonable for what it includes, and Seokjin (the guy who runs it) is a blast. He's very knowledgeable and has everything organized for you. It's a great trip, and it's nice not to have to worry about minor details.
It's not all expats either, there were Koreans on both the trips I went on as well (the majority were expats though).
I'm planning on doing more with them in the future.
I'd say just give it a try - if you find you don't like it, then don't do it again.

Completely agree. I have been on about 5 of their trips now and have had a good time everytime. Seokjin is a blast and the other Korean English speaking guides are nice too.

I have done a couple of trips with Adventure Korea and I have to say they are a lot of fun. It is a great way to spend the day or the weekend. You don't have to do anything but show up: it's all done for you. That's what I liked about it. And you meet some really cool people too. I have done the trips alone and during the trip have gotten to know some really fun people from all over the world. As for the price, I think that they are very reasonable compared to other trips I have seen. The best part is: most the trips have choices. So, if you are not in the best of shape, like myself, you don't have to do everything on the days' schedule. You will generally have the option to stay behind and do something else. You should give it a try. |

I did the bungee jumping trip earlier this year, it was great fun. Didn't do the bungee as I am a big chicken, but went for the cycling which was a great laugh.

I've done two of their trips (rafting and DMZ) and they're alright, provided you know what you're getting ahead of time. A couple cautionary notes:
* They are package tours, so there's a lot of time spent on buses shuttling from one place to another (depends on trip, of course).
* Lots of people around, so like the above poster said, you're at the whims of the masses as concerns pace.
* You're bound to spend a lot of time with other hagwon teachers. Nothing against hagwon teachers, but if I'm going to spend that much time on a bus with a group of people, I'd prefer it be more diverse, as the conversation too often strayed into "at my school..." stories.
Adventure Korea is especially useful for the freshly arrived. Give their outings a shot if you're not up to exploring the country by yourself or just want to meet some new people. Once you've been in Korea a year or two (or less), though, you can often do better on prices by yourself or a small group and go at your own pace, too.
As above, Seokjin is an endlessly helpful guy and most of the folks I've met on the trips have been friendly. |
