Wow! I just bought it yesterday and have only played the first mission, but... WOW!
With my P4 2.4 and GeForce 6300-256DDR I can just barely make the medium settings... but this game really makes me wonder what the highest settings must look like... it's truly an incredible environment (a virtual Mexico City)!

Looks interesting.

I just finished F.E.A.R which I thought was great fun. So this could be the new one for me.

Do you have to think a lot? I want to get on a game for no more than two hours at a time and I don't want to have to work out stuff forever.

I'm more of a blaster but I do like hard enemies. The bad guys in F.E.A.R were quite smart and hard to kill sometimes.

The FEAR baddies reminded me of Half-life 1.

I lost interest in the R6 series after the AI got so bad, I actually wanted to join the Ubi forums just to start a complaint thread.

"This game I downloaded from Edonkey is terrible!"

Laughing

Oddly enough, for a squad-based game with a large single-player component, it had the worst AI since Serious Sam, and they were just joking at that.

Eamo, I haven't had the chance to play any more since my first post, but basically it appears to play somewhere between Rainbow6 and FEAR, I.E. not quite as involved as the first Ghost Recon, but not simply a Doom run n' gun either. Too early to tell how satifying the game play is... but the engine and the environment are mindblowing.

Have you tried Quake 4? I loved FEAR at first but I think overall I enjoyed Quake4 more, and it certainly was a far superior solo FPS product than Doom3 (or Quake3 for that matter)- it's not be missed if you like FPS!

TimeShift and a Far Cry sequel sound like the two big FPS games on the horizon...

Demo, which R6 are you talking about? I've only played Rogue Spear and then the R6-3 (Athena Sword and its expansion) and I thought they were fine. I heard they recently released an R6 FPS which apparently is godawful:

I kind of have Quake 4 and kind of don't!!! Laughing I've downloaded and installed it but I can't seem to get around the "no-cd" protection for this game......It's just a matter of time before I work it out. Looking forward to it.

I actually bought Doom 3. 50,000 won. I enjoyed it. A little predictable. You kind of always knew when a baddie would be around the corner. Satisfying enough enviroment though.

I like the sound of Ghost Recon. I really should get away from the simple, FPS, carnage-style games and try something a bit more cerebral.

I'm sure it was Rogue Spear.

Perhaps I got the mentally challenged teammate edition.

Not got to installing it on my laptop yet, I've been a little slow on completing the Rainbow Six Lockdown I installed before I came out here, choosing to spend my night times partying instead.

I do plan to add it this week though along with Fifa World Cup 2006 to get in the spirit of things before the big kick off.

Eamo I can get you a Fixed .EXE to replace the original Quake 4 one which allows you to play without a CD / DVD in the drive, you'll need to be running version 1.0 or 1.0.4 though, which you will be doing unless you seek out an official update. If you're interested then shoot me a quick PM.

Sweet! I just picked this up last night. I'm surprised it runs so well on my lappy. I thought it might be a bit hit or miss but all seems good. Now, having said that I'm not sure it's going to replace Battlefield 2 for me.

Cheers

Thanks a lot but I have the no-cd patch. There's something else wrong. What that is I don't know yet.

If you're not able to play it without the disc then it has to be an issue with the NoCD patch.

Check your version then head over to gamecopyworld and seek out Quake 4 where you'll find a wealth a patches and fixes.

I had a lot of trouble getting a good framerate with a Pentium IV (2.4C overclocked to 3.0) and a 6600GT 128MB. The game is tougher on the system than BF2.

I'm not have frame rate problems (that I've noticed- it seems fine so I haven't bothered to test) but my video card is locking up on this game once every couple of hours. Crying or Very sad

Got it on the weekend and loaded it up. Runs well on a modest machine. P4 @ 3.5, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9800xt 256 overclocked way too high.

1280x1024, no AA or AF, medium textures, all else high, everything else on the advanced menu turned on. Small stutter from time to time, but not at all unplayable. This ATI card is a trooper for a grandpa.

After patching, it runs well. It seems to play like a port....or a poorly coded PC game. Similar to Deus Ex 2 in feel. Then again, on a dual core, SLI system, it may well feel pretty slick indeed.
