Copy of Passport:

Which page are they referring to? Does the page that they want have any kind of revealing information on it, like imp. #'s that somebody could conceivably use?

Photo:

Suit? No bed head? Smile? Or does it even matter if I am white and decent looking? One photo or two? Full body or head shot?

Recruiters:

If I am arriving in Busan to find a job, should I contact a recruiter (one?) for the introductions? Should this recruiter pick me up at the airport? What should I expect him to do for me?

I apologize in advance. Karma dictates that I will be the one answering these questions for the next newbie when I get there.

Thanks,

Yes, a scan of the information page of your passport. There are no important numbers than anyone could use there... the numbers are meaningless outside of the context of the passport.

Photo:

Passport style is fine....It's all I have ever used.

Make your best deal, but since you have no school and no residence...then a recruiter will not likely pick you up. If one does, then you will feel morally obligated to use that one... even if he is not a good match for you.

I apologize in advance. Karma dictates that I will be the one answering these questions for the next newbie when I get there.

Thanks,

Passport copy:

It should be the inside front cover plus the first page. In other words, the photo page with your name, date of birth, etc., plus the signature page. It should look something like this:

or this:

Be sure to include a photo, and make sure it looks good. Many schools consider the photo before they consider anything else. You want to look professional, conservative, and you should definitely smile. If you're a guy, wear a tie, maybe even a suit. If you're a gal, wear a women's suit or a dress. It wouldn't hurt to invest a few dollars into having some professional photos done.

Crazylemongirl says she has had particularly good luck with photos of her with a happy child in her lap. She may be on to something.

Recruiters:

If I were coming over without a job, I would definitely be in touch with recruiters before I came, let them know you're coming, and have them set up interviews for you. It would be nice to be able to hit the ground running with some leads set up right after you land.I'd be surprised if they'd go so far as to pick you up at the airport, but who knows how desperate they might be? They will definitely be able to help you with directions to job locations, etc. Regardless, do NOT stick to just one recruiter, or feel like you owe them anything. Use them the way they intend to use you.

It wouldn't hurt to visit some of the local expat watering holes of whatever town you're looking in, meet some teachers, and ask around. You never know what leads yo might turn up.

Good luck!

PRICELESS!!!!!

Thanks Son Deureo!

That is exactly the kind of advice that HELPS!!

We may seem like ignorant idiots coming out of the gate, but some of us are somewhat resourceful, but still need someone helpful to nail the details. Much appreciated!! Life just got a bit easier!!
