I know they're not 2 of the best airlines out there, but having never flown Continental, I'm curious as it whether it's worth the $200 savings to take them rather than Northwest..

Usually I'd do anything to save $200, but my last trip home wasn't so fun.

I am always surprised when taking domestic US flights and have to pay for a beer.

I was however stunned into silence when I had to pay for beer on an intercontinental Continental. Surprised

When I took NWA to the U.S. in March, they were also charging for beer. I've never flown Continental internationally, but based on my extensive experience with Northworst, I wouldn't hesitate to give continental a try. I think though that Continental doesn't actually fly to Korea except as code share flights operated by its partners such as Nwa.

you get world perks miles on both airlines and they both have about the same level of service.

it seems most american airlines started charging for alcohol in coach on international flights about 2 years ago. sucks.

are most asian/ european carriers still offering free booze?

Apart from Continental, I can't remember the last time I paid for a beer on a plane: certainly, pre-1977.

I do know that on cheap short-haul in Europe, one pays for everything - even hand baggage and coffee.

Believe it or not, Continental is WORSE than NW. I flew them last summer, and swore NEVER again!! Even if I have to pay more! I've never met ruder flight attendants. One of them dumped water all over me, and barely apologized...didn't even offer to bring napkins, towels...the connection times were terrible (LOOOONNNGG) layovers, and the seats more uncomfotable than any other airline I've been on...INCLUDING NW!! The only good thing is that I got my miles credited to NW...not that I'll ever be able to use them! Rolling Eyes

We fly NW on each trip home and quite enjoy it.

On asian routes they offer decent (no frills) service. Detroit Airport is a breeze to get through.

Compared to AC it is miles ahead anyway!

Korean Air and Thai Airways both still offer free booze (wine and beer at least, I have never asked for hard liquor).

I'm flying to Detroit as well.. but NWA restructured their business a few months ago and everything has gone up in price..

I'm going to try the Continental now I think.. $200 is $200... I just won't get WorldPerks points for NWA Sad

Assuming points are available for the cheaper fare, you will get your NW points: by a quirk of the Air France/KLM merger, NW and CO are in the same grouping. You can use NW/KLM cards on Delta, CO, KAL and NW.

My brother is a pilot for Continental and they seem to have a lot of morale and labor problems. The employees recently took a big pay cut.
