So I left a token amount in my bank back in New Zealand (something like 100bucks) and have been waiting for the won to drop before converting my savings. I wanted to do it this week only to find that the bank has cancelled my account (it's been inactive for just on a year). I told them I'd be overseas and that I'd be transferring money back home.

So after trying to call my 'personal banking representative' numerous times and leaving a couple I'm about ready to just open a NZD account here and change banks back home. I would have thought that banks would be happy about me sending a giant wad of money home to have it sit there for almost a year doing nothing.

Go figure.

One of the banks I deal with back home, President's Choice, recently told me that they close bank accounts with just 6 months of inactivity. Can you believe that? Lots of people who live in their home countries have 2, 3, or even 4 bank accounts - many of which they only occasionally use. Banks suck!

Advice: Never deal with Citi Bank! My buddy in Japan told me that over there they have a required minimun bank account balance of $3000 USD. If you have less than that, they charge you a service charge of $30 a month! Thieves!
