My current E-2 visa expires on August 24. I get a long Summer break so I will leave Korea on June 18 and return on August 31. So my current visa will expire before I get back. I cannot renew before I go because the school doesn't make the new contracts until mid August. Can I get some kind of one week extension on my current E-2 or anything? Any ideas for this?
Thanks,
Drew

You can get a short extension but you have to do it within the last 30 days of your current contract. If the school is willing to give you an "EXTENSION CONTRACT", you can extend your E2 for that duration (perhaps until Sept 1 and have a stipulation that there is no pay for the extension period (to keep the school happy) ... cost is 30k won.

What you say is very interesting because my contract is actually good up to Aug 31. It is my E-2 that expires on Aug 24. Because last year I entered the country on Aug 24, one week before I needed to start my contract. So my E-2 was started on the entry date, and seems that it will be forever tied to that entry date. So can I extend my E-2 for one week from Aug 24 to Aug 31 since I do have a contract good to Aug 31?
Thanks,
Drew

AND... drum roll here please....

your school CAN go down in your stead (as a proxy) and renew/extend your visa for the 2nd year (as in mid August) as long as they have the NEW signed contract AND signed extension application and pay the 30k won fee.

Would my school need my passport or ARC to do this? Of course I have to take my passport with me out of the counrty, and I think that I need my ARC also (don't I?). I guess I could Fed-Ex this stuff back and forth if necessary.
This sounds great,
Drew
