Wal-Mart in Daegu (Sung-seo) has Santa Julia Malbec (actually a Malbec blend) in gift boxes -- two bottles for 9,000 Won. I used to drink Malbec when I lived in Argentina. Great with meat or pasta, and the usual price is 9,000 for one bottle.
My Malbec of choice is Trapiche, which is available now at the Homeplus. Considerably more expensive that the Wal-Mart deal.
Happy tippling!

No guarantees, but the Hyatt Deli, at the Hyatt and Galleria have and extensive selection of Wolf Blass wines.
I've never noticed "grey label", in fact, I didn't even know that it existed, but you can most likely call them to find out if it's available.

MILES
First take your glass and examine
the wine against the light. You're
looking at color and clarity.
JACK
What color is it supposed to be?
MILES
Depends on the varietal. Just get a
sense of it. Thick? Thin? Watery?
Syrupy? Inky? Amber, whatever...
JACK
Huh.
MILES
Now tip it. What you're doing here
is checking for color density as it
thins toward the rim. Tells you how
old it is, among other things, usually
more important with reds. This is a
very young wine, so it's going to
retain its color pretty solidly. Now
stick your nose in it.
Jack waves the glass under his nose as if it were a perfume
bottle.
MILES
Don't be shy. Get your nose in there.
Jack now buries his nose in the glass.
MILES
What do you smell?
JACK
I don't know. Wine? Fermented grapes?
Miles smells.
MILES
There's not much there yet, but you
can still find...
(more sniffs)
...a little citrus... maybe some
strawberry... passion fruit... and
there's even a hint of like
asparagus... or like a nutty Edam
cheese.
Jack smells again and begins to brighten.
JACK
Huh. Maybe a little strawberry. Yeah,
strawberry. I'm not so sure about
the cheese.
MILES
Now set your glass down and get some
air into it.
Miles expertly swirls the wine. Jack follows suit.
MILES
Oxygenating it opens it up, unlocks
the aroma and the flavors. Very
important. Now we smell again.
They do so. Jack smiles.
MILES
That's what you do with every one.
JACK
When do we get to drink it?
MILES
Now.
Jack gulps his wine down in one shot. Miles chews his before
swallowing.
==============================
MILES
How much skin and stem contact?
POURER
About four weeks.
MILES
Huh. That explains all the tannins.
And how long in oak?
POURER
About a year.
MILES
French or American?
POURER
Both.
MILES
Good stuff.
JACK
Yeah, oak. That's a good wood.

You are doing a very good community service making that post into a sticky.( )
I would also suggest to Troll_Bait that any suggestions made below on this thread be edited onto the second frame of this sticky thread so that really lazy people don't have to scroll down. Hungry people don't have time to research and look up maps and call to eat. If you could spare them at least the time to scroll around even on this thread.
Again, tanks!

A cheap French restaurant has opened in Sinchon, Le Petit Paris. The chef is an adopted Korean from France who used to cook in restaurants at the Eiffel Tower.
A bottle of authentic French wine aged seven years is only 30,000 won and filet mignon is 12,000 won.
To get there, get off Sinchon station and head for Yonsei University. Right when you get to the four-way intersection with the pharmacies, make a left and keep looking up on your left. The eatery is on the second floor of the corner building on the right.

Really Good Indian Food In Itaewon
I've discovered a really good Indian restaurant in Itaewon that has fresh and delicious food. It's called Wazwan. What makes this place stand out is the quality and taste of the food. Everything is made to order so you know you're getting fresh food. Very flavorful, not like those ho-hum buffets located near the main street. The curries are excellent and the nan is freshly baked in their tandoor oven. Try it out.
Go out of exit 3 at Itaewon station. Walk in the direction of Starbucks. Turn right at the corner. Pass the international supermarket and What The Book bookstore on the left, the you turn left at the corner. Walk about two short blocks, pass the mosque and you'll see Wazwan on the left. Be sure to tell them that Dev from Daegu sent you!

A new Egyptian eatery has opened in Itaewon. I read about Pharoah's in today's Korea Herald, has anyone else tried it? |

It's not very new... I went there several months ago. The owner was the head chef at the Egyptian embassy or something. Decent enough place but hard to find. |

I tried it a couple times (I'd rate it so-so...) It's very small, and it's apparently just a one-person operation. It's located on that "Hooker Hill" street not far from What the Book. Walking up the hill, take a left at the corner of the Foreign Food Store, and you'll see it on the right after a little ways. (The manager of the "Wellness Center" eats there regularly, and she places some of her salt lamps and candles there for sale...) |

I went there once and it was OK. Not all that exciting, but the price was very reasonable compared to most of the other places I liked to go in Seoul. And the owner was very friendly and accommodating -- that's important too. |

A friend took me to a great little atmospheric Japanese bar / restaurant in Hongdae last week. It's called Wabi Sabi and is hidden up a little alley in the quiet end (near Exit 5). A pretty good selection of sake and some bottled beers., but the really special feature is the food. It's delicious and reasonably priced. I guess I thought it was going to be some sort of sushi bar, but not at all. They serve stuff like samgyeopsal in various sauces, egg rolls, yaki soba noodles.. That's all I tried but saw lots of other tasty looking dishes being served. Anybody else been there? |
