At that point, all discussion would come to a screeching halt. Whatever I may have been prepared to do to meet their requests, whatever I might have proposed or considered with an open mind and sympathetic ear -- it's suddenly all off the table and I'm walking out -- until that comment is fully retracted, an apology is made, and an understanding is reached that there will be hell to pay if I ever hear it again (from anyone but my boss). |

The guy who said was the head teacher, and the "head honcho" said I had to listen to him. |

He doesn't have the authority to fire me, I just have to listen to him as if he were an actual boss. |

Well, the boss has limits as to what he or she can tell you to do or to what he or she can say to you. As does the owner. |
I think rapier's solution will work the best:
Take a baseball bat to school tomorrow and whack him in front of all the staff. Then wave it in their faces as you stand on the bloodied body of your boss. Tell them America saved them from the Norks, you'll teach however you please, and that you are going to own that place from now on. |

We havent turned ourselves into hourly employees....the Koreans did it to us! They defined our contracts by only counting teaching time...telling people you would only work 30 hours a week...and then telling them...thats 30 hours of in class time....then lets add on another 5+ hours a week for you to come in early for prep....then lets add on field trips, marking and other duties! There ya go...you will be at the school for 42.5 hours a week...BUT  you'll only work 30. Stupidity at its finest!
If people wanted a 40+ hour a week job for crap wages they would have stayed home and worked at McDonanlds! 
The whole loyalty to the employer thing is bogus! Koreans need to realise that ESL teachers are only hired guns...we come in....we work for the year and then we're gone(for the most part). Our loyalty lasts only as long as our pay is on time and our contract is honoured. The minute they start to screw around on crap like that we are outa there! |

Sound idea. But on that bat you should write in indelible marker:
Unconditional Support to North Korea!! 
Because that's a stick I feel South Koreans should be beaten about the head with. |

| I think OPs head teacher is wrong in many ways, not the least incredibly disrespectful. However, OP says that he/she doesnt have enough classes to fill thirty hours. It would seem reasonable then for them to at least expect the teacher to be on the premises to fill that thirty hours. Don't know the whole situation though.... |

Not likely the foreign teacher.
With no FT, the school has nothing to sell and might as well close the door. I still stand by my first suggestion. Hand in a WRITTEN notice of termination and cite the "head teacher" as the reason.
He is mad at you and will piss on your rope for the rest of the time he is there so you have nothing to lose...
Worst is that they do fire you and you can get a MUCH better job elsewhere...
If you have to follow through with your resignation... then you can still find a much better job... There is nothing more valuable than a foreigner who is already in the country....
Either way... you win....
The only way you lose is if you get in a pissing match with your boss. Then you get a miserable year... not worth it. |
