Hey. This is my first posting on Dave's and it's turning out to be a question about pharmaceuticals. I wanted it to be something more universal, let's say a philosophical question on love or war or something like that, but oh well... here goes:
I'm starting my new teaching position in Seoul in two weeks but I am clinically prescribed regular doses of clonazepam for insomnia. From what I understand, the US is relatively more prescription-happy than places like the ROK. I wouldn't want to end up in Seoul with a new job without my pills, fighting insomnia but I also speak minimal Korean and have no idea how Korean pharmacies work.
Does anyone know what the current legal limit is on the amount of clonazepam that I can bring out of the US, into ROK? |
You might try searching for English speaking doctors in Seoul and having your doctor get in contact with one of them to explain the situation. |

ANTI DEPRESSANTS FRIGGIN RULE!
Though the one and only time I ever used Xanax it knocked me out like a flop house mouse. I was useless for the rest of the day, or should I say more useless than normal. |

I just moved back home to California, and many people have recommended Xanax to ease my fear of flying. I must admit I was disappointed with Xanax and I took three pills (which I think is alot) an hour before my flight and I still felt nothing! I even chased the pills down with a couple of beers before I boarded the flight. I felt a little whoopy for maybe 15 minutes (mainly from the beer) but it did not ease my anxiety of flying at all or help in any way. It just gave me a headache.
So anyone familiar with this medication.....did I take too little (.75 mg at one time)? I was just wondering how it worked for you. Maybe my fear of flying is too strong for any medication
Well, at least my plane didn't crash |
What about a herbal alternative for anxiety e.g. St Johns Wort? |

During an extended bout of insomnia last year, my doc gave me some xanax, I guess thinking I was anxious so couldn't sleep. Nothing. I didn't feel any less or more anxious and certainly not any more sleepy. However, I didn't keep taking it for any length of time. I was just insomnia and if I could've found the tylenol cold and sinus LAST year, I would've been golden.
BTW, an herb good for insomnia is valerian, though I don't know that it helps with anxiety. |

Xanax is good. Alcohol is good.
In this case, good + good might be dangerous.
Neither does much for flight anxiety in my experience.
Maybe a Xanax under the tongue a half hour before takeoff and again before landing.
Effective, but short-acting. Definitely useless for insomnia.
For long flights, I use a Korean over-the-counter packet of powder called
Bo Mi Rong. Knocks me out for the entire trip, but conscious for meals and movies on demand.
I just dug some out of the medicine cabinet, and have
a webcam, but don't know how to post a pic. |
