What's funny is the fact that I was a soju drinker before I ever set foot in Korea.

once you get used to it i don't think soju is any worse for you (or worse tasting) than your cheaper american liqueurs or japanese sake.

oh how on earth could you compare Japanese sake to soju like that.

Sake is a great tasting, classy drink and it's not cheap!

You sound like someone who's never even tried sake. Rolling Eyes

I think it's safe to say that most people around the world enjoy drinking sake, especailly with sushi and sashimi. Soju on the other hand.... is another story.

So you have to get "used to" soju huh? You don't have to get "used to" sake. It's never given me a hangover either.

the first time i tried sake, it tasted like rot gut vodka warmed up. now i like it, warm or cold like soju is usually served. there is a huge variety of sake ....cheap, cold, warm, expensive, etc. if you'd ever been to japan, you would know this.

the reason sake is "classy and expensive" is because japanese culture is more chic and accepted around the world than korean culture. That's just B.S.

let's do a test. drink 2 bottles of cold soju one night and 2 bottles of cold sake on another. you will get a hangover from both; promise.

Hey, look I've been to Japan but one does not neet to go there to know that there are varieties of sake... that's just common sense. Sake is considered a rice wine while few people would ever be so bold as to call soju a "wine."

As for your test, I would not touch the Soju. I would however drink a large glass of soju about the equivalent of an average size soju bottle. I'll drink a large mug of imported beer at the same time and I'm bearly getting a buzz after about a half hour. So I decide on a few shots of imported 40-45% Mexican Tequilla and buzz begins to kick in but not bad. I'm having a good time but still in total control. Next day rollls around and I'm feeling great.... no hangover in the least. So try that on for size.

"WHEN IN ROME, DO AS THE ROMANS DO !!!"

Enough said. When I'm in Bangkok, you will see me in the sidewalk cafes along the Sikumvit drinking MEKONG freakin' whiskey with the best of them! Coke and lime, baby!

You are an elitist and you hate korea and everything it has to offer, admit it, lemonade.

This is not a scene out of "Lost in Translation" with Scarlet Johanneson. This is real life. Enjoy!

my stomach rumbles at the mere thought of that.... distilled tree bark.

My understanding and empathy for those posters who say they can't stomach soju is based entirely on my own stomach's reaction to that Chinese ... whiskey, do they call it? That vile turpentine they serve at Chinese restaurants here.

I don't really like the taste so I usually chase a shot with a swig of beer. But I do like the fact that for 3 bucks I can buy 3 bottles and get a killer buzz on. I take a vitamin before going to bed and keep a bottle of water by my bed and chug from that everytime I wake up and I've never had a hangover.

Heh, yeah, I've had a touch of that stuff as well. The results were amazing, in that I think I achieved a new high score in the projectile vomiting game.

It's not exactly a headache, what follows drinking that. I'm not sure there's a name for what it is. I think there is an unwritten law not to name it lest ye invoke its wrath.

The Chinese make the vilest spirits known to mankind. It's like a vodka but also like soju. It smells like 5 day socks with a hint of "man-juice".

And how do you know that smell? Well?

That stuff the Chica and I got you for your birthday was her idea. Still, you got your revenge on both of us, as I seemed to partake of more of it, and neither of us were too pleased with the end result.

But of course! If you don't have to fight for it, it's not worth having.
