I just had the first one of the semester, which would make it at least 10 weeks, if you can believe that (she's no doubt busily copying out the worksheet I'm making her copy before she gets it back as I type this). I don't know if I've become so much more interesting, if they've finally figured out they can't get away with fooling the stupid waegook, if the stupid waegook just hasn't been noticing lately or if the homeroom teachers have been a lot stricter about taking them away at the start of the day, but I have to say I'm very impressed.

Back in my brief hogwan days, before I gave up and stopped trying, I think my record confiscating (or should I say wrestling away) handphones was five in one day.

I have the exact opposite problem.

I have never had to confiscate a mobile phone, but at least one a fortnight a student will leave one behind in my room.

Then the hunt is on to find out who it belongs to. Laughing

I dont confiscate. I single the student out, tell the whole class we are going to repeat the exercise for his or her benefit because they were being rude, or just chuck the student out of class. Very embarrasing (sp?)

Not once in my recent three years in Korea. Didn't need to.

Did chuck a Russian student (studying Korean) out of class for talking on her phone though - she never came back!

Interesting - in my experience it's always been that if they think they can get away with it, they will.

Our school's rule is any handphone in class will be confiscated for a week. I took one away at the beginning of the semester and haven't seen one since.

I created my own rule at my uni. Any cell phones that ring out, or if I catch them text messaging they will be charged 500 won on the spot~ payable right away. They must keep their phones on buzz. If they get a buzz phone call, they're allowed 20 seconds to quickly tell the caller they're in class, or to ascertain if it's an emergency. Any longer, than that and they must pay. Most won't even answer if it's buzzing.

I've made about 2500 won this whole Semester. They've been getting better over the years. (BTW, if much money is made, then we throw a party at the end of the year with it.) I've been finding this method works very well of me.
