Along the same topic as I posted earlier.
Does anyone know if I can find canesten or monistat in Korea at a pharmacy? How do I ask for it?
Any other yeast infection treatments that you know of?
Thanks! |

Write them out... the pharmacist will recognise the brand names
(but probably NOT your pronunciation of them unless you do Konglish)
and either have them or a Korean equivalent with the same active ingredients.
Unless you are CLOSE to a womens hospital or a large University or city hospital you may have to try a couple of pharmacies to find them but they are here. |

Try walking into a pharmacy and saying "Candida" Koreans seem to know this word. I usually head to my OB/Gyn clinic. Dr. Choi gives me a shot in the butt and stuff to clear it up. Cheap too.

Vaginal Thrush
This causes itch and a cheesy discharge. The area is often redder than usual. It is often painful too, especially on intercourse, and may be associated with frequency of passing water and burning or pain on passing water. It may, therefore be confused with bladder infections (cystitis). Thrush, however, is usually associated with itching, which cystitis is not.
Oral Thrush
This may cause a sore mouth and throat, and as well as redness, it is characterised by white discharge on the surface. Babies, especially those being bottle fed, may suffer from this, as well as adults.
Nappy rash
One cause of a persistent nappy/diaper rash is infection of the area with thrush.
The cause is a fungus which is found widely in nature (Candida albicans),...
http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/thrush.html
What's the cause?
About 75 per cent of women will experience thrush at some point in their lives. Thrush can be passed on during sex but is more likely to occur when someone wears tight trousers or nylon underwear, takes certain antibiotics, is pregnant, has diabetes, or uses too much vaginal deodorant or perfumed bubble bath that causes irritation.
Treatment
- wear loose fitting clothes made from cotton
- avoid bath additives, perfumed soaps, and for women avoid douching
- wash the genital area as normal regularly every day and pat dry
- use pads rather than tampons during a period.
- thrush is easily treated using pessaries, creams or tablets
- inserting live yogurt into the vagina using a tampon applicator is a natural treatment
- tea-tree oil cream can be used to treat thrush outside the vagina or on the *beep*

Thanks so much!
Did the trip to the pharmacy tonight - well had to go to two. I believe the poor young man at the first place will die from embarassment. I don't think he's a pharmacist, just a young man working there while the pharmacist is out. The second place hooked me up so I think I'm good to go. Will head to Dr. Sung sometime next week just to be sure all is well
'tis the season indeed - and a nasty season indeed. I'd rather have the acne...
ps- does anyone know where I can get these yoghurt pill things? I've never heard of them... can I just eat yoghurt and have that do the same thing? |

I hope you were joking.
I've heard of applying garlic but not yogurt. I definitely suggest eating the yogurt. At least one a day should help. Of course for those of us who just can't eat yogurt on a regular basis, acidophilus pills should help. Don't know if those are available in Korea, though. Also, if you have access to a bathtub, try putting a little vinegar, or if you don't have that, salt in the water and sitting in it for a few minutes. It's supposed to restore your natural balance. Can't hurt to try. |

They have fluconazole, about W10,000 without insurance. I just went to a doctor (woman, but not sure if she was a "women's doctor" or not, told her I had a yeast infection (or tell them candidiasis.) She didn't examine me, just wrote the prescription. |

The yellow-frocked yogurt lady sells a brand called "Bulgaris" that has active cultures. |

Nope, not joking. It's way too crunchy for me, but I googled: "natural remedies for yeast infections" just to doublecheck and the following comes up:
Quote: |
Regularly daubing apple cider vinegar in the areas prone to this infection. Your can add some garlic to stop the itchy feeling; and water to dilute the vinegar concentration
Curds or yogurt is regarded as one of the best home remedies. In fact, it is advisable to soak a tampon into curds and place it in the infected region for at least an hour. Basically, the healthy required bacteria from the curds will replace the unhealthy yeast bacteria. This could be repeated twice to thrice a day. |
Gross of course, but not everyone has access to doctors or antibiotics immediately.
I do agree that eating it would be my first choice. |
