It's pretty lonely at 4am. Getting warmed up for the World Cup, I guess.
Fairly tactical match so far. The Henry vs. Ronaldinho hasn't quite lived up to the billing, but it's only 35 minutes in. Ronaldinho's had a few free kicks just outside the box go wide. And oh yeah, Lehmann was sent off for bringing down Eto'o.
Sol Campbell has just scored. |

Yeah, it`ll be a nailbiter. Arsenal to prevail as their chances of nicking one on the break are pretty good with Barca pouring everything forward. |

Heartbreak for the Gooners. Oh well ... what did they expect with 10 men for nearly 75 minutes. I have a funnuy feeling Theirry Henry will have had no need to swap shirts at the end of the match ... he'll have his own next seaon. |

[Henry] The game reassured me of one thing I wanted to know - how far I can go with that team. They showed me they are a team with heart and lots of quality. |
So, umm... that includes the flailing about that led to the only [stolen] goal by Arsenal?
That flop fucking disgusted me. If it'd been a Barca player that did it, I'd have been equally disgusted. That shit has no place in football and I'm glad the WC has made a strong stance against it.
Henry bitched about a Barca offsides (questionable), but didn't say jack about his own team's dishonest play. Now there's a winner.
Namaste. |

This is definitive proof of a) why football will never be taken seriously in America and b) why Americans should steer clear of the beautiful game altogether, let people who actually care about it play, and stick to NFL and WWE/NBA.

Champions League final recap
Two things stick out from the Champions League final. Jens Lehmann's sending-off was harsh, and the ref who showed him red, Terje Hauge, has now said he wishes he had let play continue and simply cautioned the Arsenal keeper. But Hauge was well within his rights to send off Lehmann. He blatantly took down Samuel Eto'o, and he was the last defender. Either way -- send him off, or let play continue and give Bara the first goal -- Hauge would have been in the right. To hear Arsenal whine, though, you'd think Lehmann was innocent of any wrongdoing. It's absurd for the Arse to blame Hauge for their loss, especially since the Gunners' only goal came on a free kick set up by one of the most blatant dives I've ever seen. Henry said, "Next time I should learn how to dive maybe but I'm not a woman so I stay on my feet." He could always just ask Emmanuel Eboue to show him, I suppose. Henry also said that Hauge didn't do his job. Well, after watching Henry choke on chance after chance, I suppose he'd be one to know.
The second thing that stood out about the game was ESPN's bizarre coverage. At halftime, Tommy Smyth was joined by Anthony LaPaglia. Not to chat about LaPaglia's acting career, but to analyze the first half. As John Walters, who I was watching the game with, said, "What, Marg Helgenberger was busy?" It was like TNT giving Jack Nicholson a telestrator. Bizarre. |
First of all, ESPN in America is a joke. Bombastic hyperbole shouting knobends.
But the second paragraph is very telling. First of all, ESPN had as their halftime "analyst" the dude from Without a Trace. I repeat, the dud from Without a Trace. Are we to understand, then, that this man, in all of America, is the most qualified to comment on the biggest club football match of the season? Second of all, the best this writer can say about it is 'Bizarre'? How about nonsensical? Idiotic? Absurd?
Unfukinbelievable. |

I think 'bizarre' works fine. Why get your panties in a wad over a lame announcer? How does that defile the sport moreso than Eboue's histrionics?
I hate that Lehmann was an idiot and committed such a stupid foul. I would've rather seen him in the game. I think if he had, Arsenal may have won, because Ronaldinho certainly wasn't doing anything. Henry had a much better game than Ronadinho, and I find that disappointing.
I also find it surprising that Henry re-signed so soon after the problems in the game. He was yelling to the coach and getting ignored.
He also complained liberally about the "unsportsman-like conduct" of the Barca team, as well as pretty much everything else.
Watching him play, I was impressed. Listening to him after the game, I'm glad he passed on Barca. I really wouldn't like to see him on their team. Barca's got at least one major flopper and I hope they get rid of his arse. Petty twats shouldn't be rewarded.

You ask why my panties are in a wad, yet you're still prattling on (2 posts now) about Eboue diving and Henry moaning.
Get over it. |

Did the lame-assed announcer play in the match? No.
Did the lame-assed announcer in any way detract from the quality of play? No.
Did Eboue play in the match? Yes.
Did Eboue in any way detract from the quality of play? Yes.
If you don't see the difference, well, that seems rather pathetic.

Even as a Liverpool supporter im glad Henry will be staying in England. Quite possibly the greatest premiership player ever.
P.S. Hermes Tris: Drop the psuedo-spiritual b.s. 'namaste'
